So I got them put on for the wedding about 2 weeks before. They were getting long and I didn't want to spend another $50 to get them redone, so last night I tried to take them off. After soaking my nails in acetone for like two hours, they are off (sort of) and my nails are HORRIBLE! I knew this would happen, but UGH! They are all messed up looking and sooooo weak. Anyone ever get silk wraps before? How long until my nails are normal? I am almost afraid to go get a manicure, not sure if my nails can handle it!!!

yup...my nails took YEARS to get better..thats why i refused to do anything other than a manicure for our wedding..it just wasnt worth it to me...sorry love!! I would definitely go for a manicure...in fact go weekly...get Duri nail hardener to help them get strong..take biotin (for hair skin and nails!) and really just do the best ya can!

Re: Ugh, stupid Silk Wraps on my nails
I did wraps for about 3 months before my wedding (I was always a perpetual nail biter) and when I finally stopped with the wraps, my nails all broke off completely. I was devastated and of course started chomping on them again.
I've tapered off a little, and my nails are finally back to their old strength (it's been a little over 4 months since the wedding).
They did look very beautiful though so I'm still glad I did it.

I went to the nail salon after i tore mine off like an animal and she filed down my nails so they didn't look so terrible.. but then my fingers were sore for a few days. My nails still look kinda crappy from it but they are half grown in.

Haha, I soaked one hand in Acetone for hours, and then got sooo frustrated so I tore off the wraps from the other hand like an animal too. I think I'll go to the salon today after work. I cannot deal with how they look right now.
Thanks for the advice girls!!!!

I had UV gels done a week before the wedding and they're only about halfway back to normal. At least with the silk you can use the acetone to loosen the glue... with the UV gels they had to completely drill and file them off. I do not recommend it.

Re: Ugh, stupid Silk Wraps on my nails
keep them short and buy a good nail strengthener.....I used NailTek Intensive therapy. I would wait a week or two to get a manicure...then when you do go tell them to just clean them up, dont go crazy filing.
Also you might want to take a Biotin Supplement or pre-natal vitamins work wonders on hair and nails

my place told me to buff the nail bed, with a smoothing /shining file (The pink/blue ones) and use the express finish CLEAR nailpolish until they harden. It worked like a charm!

I used to get the silk wraps & I HATED THEM! I only do acrylic on my nails now & so much happier for it.

hey hey cari girl!! i miss you so!!
i go back to the union square tomorrow for my first day back to work and im dreading it!!!
I have my uv nails on now... and they are driving me insane!! i need them off!!!
i think you can either get a manicure... or just buff them. buffing them helps big time. a manicure will surely help them look better.
it will take a few months at least, if you are waiting for it to totally grow out. It all depends on how damaged your nails are. the uv is really melded onto your nail... so that's slightly different than what you have. Ive had all types of tips and wraps done. the absolute worst to get rid of is the uv. Sally Hansen makes some green tea stuff (in a green bottle) that you can also try. They sell it at CVS. you should also take a look at other nail hardeners too.

When I had silk done last- LONG time ago. It took like 3 months. The nail had to re-grow to get rid of the ridges. Try Nailtek Ridgefiller to imrove the look. And it will stregnthen your nail as well.

Never put that stuff on your nails. I know its hard because people want nice nails. But i think u are better off with nice manicured short nails then all of the fake chemical crap on them. Personally i dont put anything but the polish on mine. Im lucky i have very strong nails. Try to take care of them now. Lots of vitamins & weekly mani's. Good luck.
