Un-hyphenating???
I am having serious thoughts about not hyphenating my name anymore, just being Amy Marriedname. My SS card and drivers license has Amy Maiden-Maried. It actually has turned into a big hassle since DH's name is long and Italian.So....can I go to SS again and the DMV again and change it to just married name?
Has anyone else gone through this?

Re: Un-hyphenating???
I thought about that when considering the options of my last name. I knew I'd eventually get tired of writing out a long name so I didn't hypenate.I'd imagine if you wanted to legally change your name, you'd have to go back to SS Admin and start the process over again. Or, you could legally keep it hypenated but only go by one of the last names.

Re: Un-hyphenating???
That's what I was going to say. You can use whichever name you wish. If you want to use only one name, then do that. Just make sure you change everything into the name you want to use.

Re: Un-hyphenating???
So it would be okay if my SS card says maiden-married and everything else says married only?

Re: Un-hyphenating???
Amy: Is my memory correct that you are an attorney? If so, how are you known at work? I changed everything to my DH's name, except I still go by maiden name professionally (although paycheck, insurance, etc. are in DH's name).

Re: Un-hyphenating???
I go by my maiden name (and yes I'm an attorney) at work but my voicemail and letter head says maiden-married, esq.(which i know i shouldn't do since i didn't change it with the bar). But how do i know start going by just my married name here at work?

Re: Un-hyphenating???
you have to be careful with which name is on your SS card. when you file your taxes you have to make sure that your name matches EXACTLY what your SS card says. the IRS matches up returns by SS# and name, so if one doesn't match the other, you will generate a notice (not a big deal - but people freak when they get mail from the IRS).Welcome New Vendors
