UPDATE!: Coookbook might not be dead..just metamorphasing...
OK so this si the deal.
I ahd stopped working on the cookbook because I got really frustrated with it. It ended up with a zillion pages and alot of them are recipes that we can find in cookbooks or the food network site, word for word. This wouldn't be an issue except for A) copyright laws, even with giving credit and B) sheer volume of the book. Some people submitted 20 recipes, all from RR with no adaptations, and while its great, again, copyrights and sheer volume which means the price goes through the roof.
We were going to print through BLURB,com which was the cheapest but the issue is that once you get to a certain numbe rof pages, the price goes up again.
We were aiming for the $25,00 mark. However because of the number of recipes and the unfortunate formatting we had to use, the book was at the $35.00 range which some people when I asked, said was too expensive. Frustrated because very few wanted to pull ny of their recipes, I basically pulled all of my recipes but for a few and had to cut down on duplicates by others. Now it's at $25.00 again but half the stuff is out.
I considered dumping the project but I have gotten a few emails about it wondering when its coming out and don't wnat to dissapoint anyone who volunteered their recipes.
But I want to get this thing done. So my question is:
Do we keep it at a cut down version with half of the recipes missing (and no I didnt cut recipes with any malice-I just took thm out if therwee too many like them in already, or the contributor had submitted a) or do them all and then the book would be $35.00+shipping.
Or do we say good try but screw it and not publish?
PLEASE vote on this so we can just make a decision.
Thanks again aldies for everyone that contributed.
PS If anyone wants to try and take over the project (not saying it can be done cause havent tried yet) FM me and try downloading BLURB.com onto your comp and I will see if I can share what I have with you so you can work on it and take over. Not sure it would work but it would be worth a try.

Re: LAST TOPIC ABOUT THIS: LIW COOKBOOK. FINAL POLL PLEASE answer this if you are involved
Honestly, I thought it would be personal or family recipes. I don't really think it should have contained Food Network recipes or stuff like that unless they were changed or enhanced in some way. If most of it is stuff you can get from the internet, I say forget it.
Edited to say Thanks to Jenn for trying to put this together!!

I agree........TBH I'm not going to spend $35 for a recipe I can go online and get for free. I would either pull all the food network/betty crocker recipes and only use family or special recipes or I would just scrap the idea.

Thanks guys. That was the original idea-to have the recipes be ones handed down or ones we re-did and adapted to make out own but about 50 percent were word for word from cookbooks. SO it took away because I own half the books these recipes were being submitted from.
A little disappointing but we tried.

aww Jenn, I know this was your big project but I don't think anyone will blame you for not wanting to finish it up. i definitely did not realize it would be such a big headache for you!
i will be the first to admit that a lot of my recipes were from food network and various magazines and cookbooks - without adaptations.
i made a book for my best friend's shower and it was more of a compilation of recipes that i had tried and knew were good... sorry girls!

just an idea. maybe we can go through and cut ones that aren't adapted at all/only slightly adapted or aren't home made recipes and keep family recipes and things ppl have made up? id be willing to help.
that being said i totally understand if you just want to be done with it bc it has become more of a headache than a fun project.
i prob still buy it. im fine with cutting it half way down for the 25.00 book.
If this does work out, I can tell you that you can feel free to get rid of my recipes that weren't adapted very much (I also thought it was fine to include my favorite recipes that I tried and loved from other sources..only included my all time favs..I wouldn't have included them if I had known ahead of time it was better to just do original ones) and keep just my 3 family ones- ellen's shells with sausage and tomato, my sister Chrissy's brownies, and mom-mom's shells and prosciutto.
The following are delish!! But you can cut bc they were only slightly adapted or not adapted- all american chili, oreo truffles, gnocchi with sausage and spinach, sun dried tomato meatloaf, chicken graps and cous cous. YUM!
maybe other girls are willing to go on that thread and specify what to cut? i dunno, just thinkin. but AGAIN...it may be more a pain for you and i totally am fine if you just cut the thing if you need to. TOTALLY up to you! Thanks for all the work you put into it.

I would say cut out any that are from the web or betty crocker. From what I understood - we were only to submit 'original' recipes or things that have changed over the years - passed down from our mom's, etc....
If you cut all those out - and don't have enough - maybe repost and let people know that you are only accepting ORIGINAL recipes???

If it's to much, then I'd say let it go. We could always just refer back to the recipe submissiong thread instead I don't think people would spend $35, I'm kinda not sure if people would even spend $25, so if it's this much of a hassle, then oh well, no biggy.
I had no idea that we were suppose to only submit recipes that were just ours, I thought they were just any recipe we felt others would enjoy, so my bad if I submitted that. (I think a few were original but others were from online somewhere)

I say either forget it if its a huge pain- we can all always refer to the link that has all the recipes listed. Or do the cut down version. But DO NOT stress yourself out over this- its not worth it. It was/is an awesome idea, but might not be worth the huge hassel.

Jenn, you put in SO much work already, but I too would vote for taking out the word-for-word copies of already printed recipes and keep personal ones or ones that have been adapted.
Or just scrap it - but it just kinda suckks since you already put so much time into it. I say at this point its totally up to you since you put all the work and effort so far.

OK girls so after thinking about it long and hard I decided to scrap it because to go through and re-edit all the recipes would just be a bigger headache and I don'y want anyones feelings hurt for their recipes being scrapped.
BUT if you want all of the recipes, just fm me your email. I have them all in folders super organized on MS word so I can send them all to you if you want them.

Awwwwwww Jenn thanks for all your time, effort, and dedication on this project. I agree letting it go was probably the best thing since I think even with the $25 rate a lot of folks would still not purcahse it. Hey at least we still have that thread we can use as a reference, and we have you to thank for that !
