Update from Doctor
Well, I had my follow-up today and it wasn't good. Some of you may remember I had a spinal fusion to correct my scoliosis (rods put in my back). Well, the area below where the fusion ends has curved and has caused complete deterioration (sp?). I also have a stress fracture in one of the bones. When I lean one way, there is a large opening between the bones, and when I lean the other way there is zero space. Soooo, surgery is more than likely needed to correct it. I'm going to try physical therapy for a bit to see if it helps, but then he said I need to decide how this is affecting my life and whether I want to do the surgery or live like this. It means they will do another spinal fusion that fuses down to my pelvis. Problem with that is it will mean my pelvis won't be as flexible, which means no natural childbirth when we decide to have babies. Also, the extra weight that comes with pregnancy would put a great deal of stress on this area if it is not corrected by surgery.
I am so devastated. I've been crying for most of the night. I know it's not as horrible as some of the things happening to some of you ladies right now. I just remember what the recovery from the first spinal fusion was like and now I am much older and heavier so recovery will be harder. I am grateful I can have children (knock on wood), but I won't be able to experience the birth naturally and that is hitting me a little hard as well.
Please say some prayers that physical therapy will magically make this go away.
