We closed on 8/9/02 and we are still not in our new home For those of you searching - this house was filled with wall paper and paneling - well if you see a lot of this in a home it's usually for a reason... the walls are a mess. We have had someone working our the walls for over 2 weeks now. We had no idea that this house needed the work that it does. Buying a home is wonderful however, everyone kept saying the same thing - everything cost more then you realize - so remember when looking - keep some extra money aside for work on the home. We had what we thought was a nice litlle nest to do the work - well everything we have done has turned out to cost more then we had expected. Everyone was right...we have gone through the money so fast - it's almost gone and we still have so much work left Well good luck to those of you still looking

So sorry to hear that!!! That really stinks. We're closing November 15th (fingers crossed) and there is very little work to do, thank goodness!!

Re: Update on my home
Junebride,
It is so overwhelming when you go through purchasing a house .. it's such a huge investment, you want to make sure you're getting what you think you're getting .. and yet, it just never seems to fail .. something always seems to go wrong right from the start.
It did for us .. about a week after we moved in, we had a huge rain storm .. when I went to the basement to get the laundry, I found a nice sized puddle under our electic panel .. DH and I took a flashlight and tried to figure where the water had come from .. and found the rain water was following the wiring into the house and coming out from the switches in the panel! We had been told by the engineer prior to closing that the ampage 'should' be increased on the house. So, since the electrician was coming to repair the soggy fuse panel, to save on labor costs, we just had him increase the ampage at that time .. which saved us in the long run.
A couple of other people I know who closed on houses right around the same time as us also had problems right after they moved in and had to shell out lots of money. It's really sad.
I'm so sorry you're going through this, and I hope this passes quickly. I know it's hard now, but think of it this way, when the new walls are done, it's going to look like a new house inside!!
