Re: do you know anyone who has asthma?

I have asthma. I was diagnosed when I was in 4th grade. I was intubated once for a really bad attack. It was worse in my childhood. I take a preventative medication during the spring and fall everyday, my allergies aggrevate it. I played soccer competitively in high school and college and had no problem. Asthma really doesn't really effect my every day life. The only thign that is different is when I get a cold I go to tghe MD right away because it goes straight to my lungs and flares my asthma up.

I get a flu and pneumonia shot every year because asthmatics are more vulnerable if they get this.

I always carry a 'rescue' inhaler on me, proventil or albuterol. I do have a nebulizer in my house for when i'm really sick but I only use it manybe once every 18 months.

Don't panic, astham is very treatable and you should be able to lead a normal life once you have it under control.

FM if you ever have any questions!

Re: do you know anyone who has asthma?

Hope everything goes o.k with your test. My ex had asthma if he let it get bad some days he was in the hospital with oxygen and high dosages of predizone. (sp check?)The lungs would fill up with fluid but it was such a long time ago I can't remember what he had to do or not do. He had his inhaler with him constantly and he was fine. It is totally treatable

Re: do you know anyone who has asthma?

both of my sisters and my step-son have asthma. my sisters have had theirs under control for years now tho, with little to no flare ups. my step son's acts up every once in a while. i have a slight murmur as well. its not the kind that can really harm you. it hasn't affected me at all except that i sometimes get arythmia (sp?)..some off beats here and there. but that can be stress related.

id get a second opinion as well if youre concerned. but don't freak out or worry yourself too much since you havent even had the test yet.

i know it can be scary to get surprising news regarding your health but there is so much out nowadays to keep asthma under control if you do in fact have it, so try to let that comfort you. also, i know youre frustrated and its easy to start saying why me about things...well, we can't know why these things happen, but try to trust the Lord in this. i have found my greatest comfort in God through all of my health struggles and it has really put things in perspective for me.

prayers and hugs!!

keep us updated.
