So, we have rented a cabin on the Oregon coast for a few days. We're supposed to leave Saturday and this morning DH tells me that he thinks we shouldn't go because of money. It's true we're short right now, but we both get paid a big lump on the 15th, which will be on our way back. I say we just charge it and then pay it when we get the money, but he thinks we shouldn't spend money we don't have (even though we will by the time we get home.) That's all admirable and stuff, but I am totally depressed and crushed that he doesn't want to go. Why is he all of a sudden being Mr. Fiscally responsible??? We only had 4 days to go on a honeymoon, so this was sort of part two. How can I convince him?

Hum...that's kind of a tough one because he does have a good point. However, if you already laid out the money to rent the cabin or for airfare, will you lose it if you don't go? If that's the case, then I think you just need to convince him that your throwing money by not going.
If you're not going to lose money, can you convince him otherwise by promising to start saving when you get back?? You should come up with a budget and show it to him. Maybe that will convince him?
By the way, I the Oregon coast! So pretty! I went to a place called Canon Beach and loved it! Hope you do get to go!

Re: vacation bummer
i tend to be the one that says if we don't have it...don't spend it. There are always unforeseen things that arise...like your car needing new tires when you just take it in for an oil change...or something breaking...

We'll only lose $85 if we don't go. He spent all his money getting new tires and tuning up his car so we could take it - that's why he's freaking out.
I think making a budget and showing it to him is a great idea! Too bad I have no idea how to do that. Google here I come!
I know he's sort of right. But right is not FUN. I am so reasonable all the time. I will be so sad if we don't go.
And YES, Canon Beach is awesome! He's never been to the Oregon Coast, so it would be a great trip. Unless he's Grumpy McGrumperson about money. Sigh.
BTW the whole vacation would cost less than $1,000.

Hmmmm
did you go on a honeymoon? If not, can't you guilt him into going by saying this trip IS your honeymoon? (Does that even make sense?)

We did go on a short Honeymoon for 4 days - which was amazing. But short. I think of this as Honeymoon Part II. He says, 'We just had a vacation.'

Re: vacation bummer
ok, well, if you REALLY want to go, I would present this to him (only if this suits your situation, of course)
'honey, I know it may seem excessive to you but once we start TTC & start a family, we won't be able to go on a vacation alone again for many years. Let's do it now while we can!'
I speak from experience. I absolutely love our daughter but she's 16 months old & we just had our 1st night away without her a few weeks ago. Babies change everything. No more romantic get aways for 2. Not for a while.
