Vacation Help Part II..what should we do???

Original post by Sonicstef

We have narrowed it down to two choices..suggestions/advice welcome.

Option #1: Use our frequent flyer miles for a trip to Hawaii. Have already been to Wakiki so we wouldnt want to spend too much time there but we really enjoyed Hawaii. Would have to spend our own dough to get to either Maui or Kaui where we would need to stay in a hotel for about 6 nights. Not sure what the total damage would be but I imagine even a moderate hotel is going to run us $150/night plus meals, etc.. Cost? Maybe 2K for both of us?

Option #2: Go on Royal Carribbean Cruise (the newer ships with the rock climbing wall, etc..) to the Carribbean for 7 nights. We have been on cruises before and really enjoyed it. Total damage about $2K.

So what do you think?

PS: Either trip would be early April. Not sure of the weather in either locale.

I asked if you didn't like flying because Hawaii is such a long flight. If you went on a cruise, you would only be flying a couple of hours. It looks like you have your heart set more on Hawaii. If thats not going to run much more money, then go for it.

Thanks November! The flight is a minor inconvience but FH is a pilot so we are used to flying a lot.

I really am not leaning more one way or the other. Its just that I already know about cruising so I have more questions about Hawaii.

Hi Stef,

FH? Hmmmm...is there something we should know?

I loved Hawaii (only been to Maui) and have gone on awesome trips to the Caribbean (no cruise though). You win either way.

The first cruise itinerary sounds very interesting. I've always wanted to visit Haiti. I understand that it is not the easiest country for a tourist to navigate, but as a cruise stop, I think it sounds great.

Cozumel is also up there on my list of places to go. I've heard the beaches are unbelievable, as is the snorkling.

JMO! Happy planning!!

Are you in the mood to have a vacation that allows you to do whatever you want when you want? If so, I would got to Hawaii. With a cruise you have to have a set time to be a dinner, set time to be back at the boat, etc...You can always do one vacation now and do another at a later time

Jenny, I have been on two cruises, one where my luggage never made half the trip...lol. I am not big on cruising either so I would say Hawaii too

Re: Vacation Help Part II..what should we do???

i've done cruises & i cannot possibly imagine that a cruise would be better than hawaii!
we did costa rica last year & it was wonderful... however, it was a very very different type of vacation .
i say go with hawaii!

I vote Hawaii over a cruise - I'm so done with cruises. You hardly get to spend any time anywhere and the boat gets so boring after awhile.

Definitely Maui and Kauai.

Both sound like wonderful vacations.

I'd choose ship #3 for the cruise.

However Hawaii is awesome. I say go for it!

I would pick Hawaii over a cruise, just because I always wanted to go. I have been on a cruise, and it is so much fun. If you dont want to spend too much I say go for the cruise.

I am calling my travel agent today. Any hotel suggestions for Maui or Kaui?

Not sure what type of hotels you like - but we stayed at the Hyatt Regency on Kauai and the Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui and loved them both.

Annie: Can you give me a ballpark on what those hotels cost/night?

We did a whole package honeymoon, 3 islands - so I'm not sure what the per-night cost was, they were 5-star hotels in the Liberty Travel brochures (where we booked), so I guess at least $200-$250 a night?
