I'm so frustrated and torn and I don't know what to do! One of my good friends lives in London and we've been wanting to go to London forever to visit. We figured we'd finally go this summer and I've been pricing out flights and everything is so expensive! Finally I found a week where the flights were like $250 cheaper per person and I emailed her to see if those dates would work and they don't! This trip is going to cost over $4000 for London and Paris for a week and I'm starting to wonder if it's worth it! I know it's an amazing trip but I just don't know if I can justify spending that much! The flights alone are almost $2500! I want to see my friend and I want to see London and Paris but part of me is really confused! We spent over $5000 to go on our honeymoon and sit around in the rain all week. I don't want to waste more money on vacations!
Plus we're hoping to buy FIL's house soon and we're going to need to redo two bathrooms and the kitchen. I don't know if a vacation is a good idea with all of these expenses we're about to have.
What should I do? S u c k it up and go on vacation and spend a lot of money that I shouldn't or be rational and tell my friend we can't afford it, given all of our other expenses right now.

That is a tough one! It is a lot of money, but it might be worth it since London and Paris are such wonderful places (I wouldn't know from experience, but I've always wanted to go there!). I think since you guys had kind of a rainy honeymoon, you deserve a great trip! I think I would do it...but of course I am always the impulsive one who doesn't think things through, so you might not want to listen to me
Sorry...I'm no help!

I tend to be rational so yep, Im with you... Theres no way in hell i could justify spending that kinda money on a vacay like that... I have noticed that flights have def increased in price as a whole so maybe wait until next yr to travel there? You'll also have a better idea of what your home finances will look like

I tend to not be rational with vacations!!! I would go and just cut back on your expenses so it wont hurt as much...we all deserve vacations especially if your hm got rained on. I looked at the same trip and it was around that same price so it really wont go down.

Can you go another time of year instead of summer when it'll be cheaper?
I would NEVER spent $2500 on a flight anywhere!

Maybe cut it down to just 1 city? Or less days?
I know you probably have - but have you tried switching the days you fly? $2500 is a crazzzy amount for flights! Outrageous actually!

$2500 for 2 people isn't that outrageous for a flight to Europe in the summer... I say go now before you have kids and responsibilities and worry about money later. This is the trip of a lifetime!

I would try and check the flight prices very often and at odd hours. We were checking every single day throughout the day for a month. We just booked our flights to Italy and they change literally by the hour in price. We really lucked out and for 2 people ended up paying $1500....but when we look now the same exact flight it's over $4k, totally crazy the whole airline industry!

Re: Very frustrated! (vacation related)
Well maybe if you could change the season you are going? Flights to Europe in the Spring/Summer are akways way more. Did you look into possibly Oct.?? Maybe make it an Anniversary trip???
As we all know renovating homes are always expensive & of course the two rooms you have to do are going to be the most expensive. Kitchens & Bathrooms always are. Im not sure of your finances. If you think you can swing both then go for it (with the trip being in the fall)!!! Good luck & good luck with the house! Very Exciting!

Re: Very frustrated! (vacation related)
Id probably save the money and not go. Since you do have other expenses. If you didn't have other expenses then I'd say LIVE IT UP GIRL!!!!
Plus to me... London is no Ireland... so it would be easier for me to say no to London to save money than it would if it were Ireland! haha!!

I would say search more before you buy. . also look at cities that are nearby and then fly internally for cheap - or take a train. sometimes ryan air and other places like that will offer 39 flights within europe so if you can get somewhere else it might be worth it. to travel a little extra. .
seems like it would be a great trip and so good to see your friend there - I'd try to keep finding a way to make it work!!

I actually say GO! You only live once, and the fact that you spent all that money to sit in the rain is more of a reason to go on another vacation!
this coming from the girl that is spending almost 5k to go to italy this september and another 1k to go to Montreal

Re: Very frustrated! (vacation related)
It's hard for me to go away during the school year because I'm a teacher...can't just book a one year trip but I did look into trips during the Christmas break and we would basically fly there and stay in the hotel for the same price as we'd just be flying there in the summer. So it looks like we'll be ringing in the new year in Paris and we'll be taking a cheaper beach vacation this summer!
