I went to dinner last night w/ my cousin & we were dicussing the pictures we were taking & how quickly I was going to put them on FB, laughing ...lol & such, but then she told me a very serious story about how to be VERY careful about what I post as far as going away or going out to dinner esp if I post from FB mobile b/c there have been at least 6 confirmed cases in the past 2 weeks of homes that were burglarized of people that had posted on FB that they were out/away - & more so b/c they did it from their mobile which meant they truly were not home. Somehow their info was looked up & their homes were not just burglarized but apparently 2 of the 6 were COMPLETELY cleaned out (WT F?)
SO I wanted to pass on this info to you ladies who use FB & FB mobile - please watch what you say on there -dont post anything about if you're going away or even if you're going out for drinks/dinner - it ***** that you have to be so protective of what you write - but it would break my heart to know that something like this happened to any of my LIW girls. A woman was on the news because someone she went to High School with and friended on Facebook saw she was away and burgalized her home.
That is why I have not made any mention of being away on it. I had made the mistake of putting it on here because as much as I love you girls I don't know you all, so I didn't post anything else even here about being away and I only made mention on here now that my husband will be home until I am.
I still won't post on FB until I get home and then put... 'I had such a great time in Florida' and put my pics up. Even writing friends about being OOT I wrote them messages and not posts.
You should never say you will be away from home on it.

My coworker just told this to me on friday. Her cousin's house was robbed after he posted on facebook the exact dates he was going to be away. Don't ever ever post the exact time frame of a vacation. People can look up your info very easily through white pages and find out where you live. Crazy!

being so OPEN online on FB is always a bit freaky to me. Luckily for me... whenever I go away... someone has to stay here to cat sit my 2 kitties! so if they tried to come here to clean out the place... they'd be surprised by someone actually being home.
BUT.... I also think it's not only FB fault... but the fact that you can go to numerous different sites and gather information for free about people. Who lives in a household, where they live (not just the address but pictures as well), phone numbers, SOCIAL SECURITY numbers..... etc!! it's SOOOO scary because they make it soooo easy for these types of scammers. With identity theft being so high you would think they would crack down on those types of sites. But instead relatively nothing happens with id theft these days and those sites remain.

This happened to our neighbor. His son posted that his dad was off to buy a rolex in the morning, and when the dad came home the house wasbeing robbed and they took the watch.... THey figuredout it was because of tghe son because the guy who robbed was his friends cousin. Nice huh?
