Has anyone on here ever met with a nutrionist? If so I am wondering where you went, why and what the results were.
I am asking because I believe I need to change my eating habits. I eat very well as it is, however I am hungry hungry hungry all the time and think its from running and I am not sure what to do about it. II cannot take this being hungry all the freaken time..no matter what I eat! I have also gained 6 pounds which is totally frusturating and feel I need answers. I may be overeacting but even DH said he is alittle concerned about how much I am eating lately...because it is totally not normal.
Also - def not pregnant...if that is what you are thinking...lol!

Re: Visit to the Nutritionist
Yes I did for almost a year. He taught me alot about food and eating habits. Funny that I always don't stick to it.
A nutritionist should be able to help you balance out your sugar levels so that your not hungry all day long. Something changed for you recently, b/c this was not happening bfr the wedding. I don't remember you discussing this
-Anyway the key is PROTEIN PROTEIN and more PROTEIN. You should limit your carb intake that is usually what creates the real highs and than real lows and why your hungry again. That is BAD!
Every time your hungry go for cheese or celery to snack on. Eat more meats or dairy or fish & poultry for breakfast or lunch or dinner. You should notice a difference in about a week or so in your hunger pain. It is not real hunger pain btw - it can be ignored. You would be surprised how much food intake your body really needs to preform.
I know you run alot so you can intake a bit more than if you were not. Not eating or skipping a meal won't kill you By all means I am not telling you not to eat -but you won't die if you ignore that urge to chow down.
Also try eating a bit slower, and drink alot of fluids during the day that helps.

Re: Visit to the Nutritionist
Seeing a nutritionist is a great idea. But also, mention this increase in appetite to your physician because sometimes it can be a sign of other medical probelms. It may be a good idea to go in for a physical if you haven't had one recently and have bloodwork done and see the nutritionst as well!
Try drinking more water and increasing your protein and complex carbohydrate intake.

Re: Visit to the Nutritionist
THANKS JENN! I am thinking this carb thing may have sent me over the edge. You may be right! I normally like to do low-carb and recently worked some more carbs in for the running...however I think it has backfired.
I think I better try a soutbeach phase 1 type thing to rid myself of the bad carb. I will give it a week and see what happens...if nothing changes then maybe I will make an appt for a nutrionist!!!

I just had a physical and bloodwork and nothing bad came back. I think I will add more protein protein protein. But what can I eat for breakfast? I used to make mini egg white quiches or hardboiled egg whites..however I eat them at work and people complain about the smell...lol! So lately I have yogurt and soutbeach granola.

A nutritionist will take blood and test for any issues going on internally.
Egg whites in the am are great. I used to do that with some cheddar cheese and pepper. Also eating meats in the am will help. Try sausage links or turkey bacon, or even if you like smoked lox with fresh mozzarella or cream cheese and lemon w/capers is a wonderful breakfast meal. You can eat toast it on whole wheat and put it on top.
I say F the co workers and what they like the smell of They will have to get over it - it is not like your bringing in offensive tuna out of the can every day
For Lunch try salads with grilled chicken even buffalo wings

Re: Visit to the Nutritionist
I would suggest seeing a nutritionist. He/She can help balance your protein/fat/carb ratio so you're getting the proper amt to keep you fueled through runs and leave you satisfied. I saw someone in NYC once. If you're interested in the city, I can dig up her name. She was on 57th street.
If you're a South Beach girl, you probably already know this, but can't hurt to ask. What kinds of carbs you have added back? SImple carbs like baked goods, bagels, regular pasta, certain cereals are broken down too quickly by the body leaving you hungrier soon. Slow-burn carbs will stay with you a lot longer--oatmeal, brown rice, sweet potatoes, various grains, whole wheat pasta (the real deal, not the whole wheat blends)
I run, too. And when I'm feeling hungrier than normal, a lot of the time it's b/c I'm not eating enough protein and/or fat. Healthy oils and nuts definitely help with satiety. Post run, I try to have a snack that incorporates a carb, a protein, and a fat like greek yogurt (more protein than regular type), fruit, and almonds.
HTH!

Re: Visit to the Nutritionist
Most likely you need more protein and water. Being dehydrated will make you feel hungry, really hungry, and you'll eat, but never feel full because food isn't what your body is needing so it won't be satisfied - this could explain the weight gain. Running is obv causing you to lose fluids so I would suggest drinking a few more bottles of water a day. Also, if you're lacking protein, you will feel like you are starving - because your muscles are and then if you aren't feeding them what you need, they'll think you are starving and therefor conserve calories and you will feel sluggish and gain weight!
So I'm basically I'm just agreeing with the protein/water suggestions. I'm not a nutritionist, but I do work in the fitness industry so I have some knowledge of it. Also, you're better off with a dietician, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, all they need is one certificiation.

Cottage cheese has TONS of protein. I usually stir in some coconut syrup or preserves to sweeten it.
In the fall I love to take a slice of hearty oatnut bread, top with slices of apples, a few walnut halves or pecans and some munster cheese and place in the broiler or mini oven toaster. You are getting your complex carbs, fruit, protein and dairy and its pretty filling.
Athletes need lots of complex carbs, if you have been cutting back then that may be why you are so hungry. Also Nuts are great for snaking and a good source of essential oils and proteins.
