vow renewal question

vow renewal question

Hi there ... I did a search on this and most people seem to think they are cheesy after getting married. So, I'm going to ask in my particular circumstances, which are unusual.

My hubby and I were married last July. It's been a rollercoaster, to say the least. The day before the wedding, there was a huge family blow out. Then, on our honeymoon, my husband was hospitalized with a massive infection. When we got back, I was mis-diagnosed with a terminal illness and was in medical testing for three months before they figured out it was a mistake. It feels like we've been married for 8 years, not 8 months. Still, we are very committed to each other.

We are going away for a 'second honeymoon' close to our anniversary. Because of all that was going on, I did not have time to do all the things I would have wanted to do, like make a scrapbook of the wedding planning stuff and what have you. It's all just sitting in my living room. So I was thinking ... what if I surprised my husband with a vow renewal at our second honeymoon? He always makes fun of me that I can't keep a secret, and I can't. Whenever I try and do something as a surprise for him, I mess it up. Should I try and plan a surprise vow renewal for when we are on our second honeymoon? Or should we just relax and take the time to do absolutely nothing ...

Please don't quote this, as if I decide to do it, I'll erase this in case he spies!

Re: vow renewal question

I don't think it's cheesy to do a renewal, I just don't know if I would do it as a surprise.

Good luck!!!

Re: vow renewal question

Hi, Me and my husband are actually renewing our vows. When we got married, we had a civil ceremony since we couldn't afford anything else.
We are going to mexico next year, just us and our daughter and we are doing everything pretty much as if this was our first time.
Good luck and go for it.

I think if you do it just the two of you, it sounds very romantic... but I wouldn't make a big deal out of it involving the families and all, know what I mean?

Good luck and sorry to hear you had such a tough 8 months!

I think it is a great idea to renew your vows; however, I would include him in on the secret!

Re: vow renewal question

Im not sure why someone would think a vow renewal was a bad idea but we did it for our one year anniversary (and we didnt have any other reason to except we wanted to).

I think its a nice idea...but I would tell your husband.

We also renewed our vows on our 1 year anniversary in Jamaica. It was just the 2 of us and we did it right on the beach. It was extremely romantic and very intimate. I loved it and hope to do it again for our 2nd - as long as I'm not in labor

I don't think it's cheesy at all to renew your vows. DH and I are doing it in May, so our families can see us 'get married'. Our ceremony in January was very small. I think it's a beautiful idea to do it on your second honeymoon, especially after all you've been through

I definitely think you should do it, but I wouldn't keep it a secret from him. It's a very special thing and I think he may want to help plan it and be involved!

I say go for it. I'm the same way about secrets so I'm not sure about that. Do you want to be stressing about it? Also think about his reaction to the suprise. Will he love it? Hate it??
