VW passat

DH and I have a great connection at VW but we've never owned them. We have been loyal toyota customers for 10 years.

We have been going back in forth between getting the much nicer looking VW Passat or the Toyota Camry.
Does anyone own a Passat, or vw how do you like. How is the serive?

Re: VW passat

Marybeth had one for awhile. She can give a good review on it.

I am a former VW Jetta owner and I must say that I had a lot of problems with it. Since the late 90s and into the early 2000s, they just weren't making them the same as before they had problems. They might have fixed the issue now (which I'm hoping because I love the EOS) but since I don't have one I don't know what's current about them.

Re: VW passat

I had a 2001 VW that I sold last year- LOOOOOVED it- except for a couple minor issues here and there and I definately recommend the extended warranty on it- I think I paid $1000 and it went up to 7 years and it was totally worth it

My sister had a 2002 and it was in an accident and she just bought a brand new one

they are supersafe- mine had like 7 airbags

if you have any questions, let me know

We love the vw (you get so much more for your money, plus like I said we have a good connection), I just want to make sure we are going to get the reliability we are use to with toyota. Its a big purchase, and I am always so cautious so I think I just need reassurance.

its reliable, but like I said before, definately look into the warranty- it saved me so much money- I kept the car for the full 7 years and an axel went and a couple other things that would have been like $400 each time- but only after the car was older really

Re: VW passat

I bought a brand new Passat back in 2004. I had it for almost 5 years. It was fine until a year ago. It really started giving me problems. 5 months ago there a a leak in the engine coolant which caused the engine to over heat. I dropped $1K on repair. Then two months ago it burnt to the ground!! It was an electrical issue that started in the passenger head light. Luckily I wasn't on the Expressway or anything. The fire dept. showed up in 7 mins. The had to put an axe to my hood the open it because the handle melted from the flames. VW are known for electrical problems. Also when it's really, really cold outside my power locks don't work. I've had about 7 recalls in less than 5 years including my heated seats, brake lights malfunctioning and some other crap that I can't remember but I didn't bother doing the recalls because it took too much time. I am so pissed because my passat woudl've been paid off this year and I would have no car payment so we can finance a sunroom. Oh well! Such is life. I just got my check from Geico last month. Bought myself a Jeep Wrangler, dropped the top and took it to the beach this weekend.

Get something else!

Dont know about the passat, but i had an 05 Jetta, which i loved, until all the recalls started, and electrical issues began. Dont know if VW still has these probs, but my car was in the shop more often than not. This really turned me off to VW's.

My friend has a 2009 jetta and I know she had a lot of problems with it. Lately it's been ok. I am a loyal Toyota owner and I think I will always own a Toyota. Good luck with your search!

'09er crashing... Just wanted to let you know that I have the 2007 Passat and I absolutely LOVE it! It rides really nice, has every feature that I could ever want, it's great on gas (I have the wolfsburg turbo model). This is my third VW, I had a 2001 Golf then the 2004 Jetta and now the 2007 Passat and I have never had a problem with any of them. On my Jetta I had to get new brakes once but that's normal. HTH
