Waiting to change name?

Waiting to change name?

Hi Ladies,

Wondering if you have any advice on this.

I already received my marriage certificate with my new last name. But I've been busy with work and getting organized after the wedding and honeymoon and just don't want to deal with the hassles of doing the name change thing now.
Has anyone encountered problems with not changing their names soon after they got married? Is there a problem to doing the change in like 3-4 months?

Re: Waiting to change name?

We got married back in November and I JUST changed my license, cards and bank info to my married name on the 2nd of July. I did do the Social Security card and the passport right off the bat because you could do it through the mail. So it was easy.

The only reason I got around to it is that we are expecting a baby, and my insurance stuff was getting tricky with it being in my married name, and then using my husband’s name , etc. A lot of the nurses/doctors were asking if it was hyphenated, etc. Info for the hospital, that kind of stuff. So I just got on board and did it. But really nothing else had come up that made it a problem. The checks we received at the wedding went into my husbands’ account – that was the only thing I got 'left out’ of because my name wasn’t right. But you will find it just starts to get kind of annoying. 'Oh it might be under my married name, let me give you both names in case, blah blah – does my credit card need to say my married name to reserve this under my husband’s name…' things like that.

But otherwise – no rush!

I've been married for about 6 weeks and I haven't changed my name yet either.

I just haven't had the time!

But hopefully I'll get to it soon, mostly because I'm now on my husband's health insurance as Karen Hislastname, and don't want there to be any problems if I need to go to the doctor and I'm still Karen Maidenname....

Have an eye doctor appointment on Saturday, so we'll see what happens......

I've been married for 3 months and haven't changed anything either. We are moving within the next month and out of pure laziness I didn't want to change my name on everything...then change it all again when we moved...I haven't had any problems yet!

i knew if i didn't do it right away.....I never will. I devoted a whole day to doing everything...dmv, ss, credit cards, bank, work papers, etc.

I changed my name w/ DMV and SS but all my credit cards are still in my maiden name. I also use my maiden name at work (I am a teacher and it's just easier for me to keep it the same) and sometimes I get confused when someone asks for my name
