Was there anyone NOT invited to your wedding who assumed they were?
Did you know they assumed they were invited? Did you tell them they weren't or haev someone else tell them or did you end up inviting them anyway?
How did it turn out in the end?
I wasn't really in this situation, but a friend of mine is & I am trying to help him out.

I just didn't invite her. I think to call attention to it by saying something, or having someone else say something would have been more embarrassing to the person.

YES!!
ETA: Oops, I forgot to answer the other question. It was never brought up with one person because I don't see her EVER. It was actually a handful of people and we did run into some people after the wedding and it was very casual no akwardness at all. I just can't believe the nerve of people when it comes to weddings and planning!

Re: Was there anyone NOT invited to your wedding who assumed they were?
Thank you both. So not saying something seems to be the way to go.
In this case, the non-guest keeps saying how she has so many weddings this year & includes that one on her list & then says, how she is moving out of state soon, but is already looking to book her palne ticket back etc. . .
She mentioned this recently at a party where there groom was & he was surprised & it wasn't really the place to say something, but he doesn't want her to book a plane ticket for a wedding she isn't invited to.

This is a good question for Jax430. She was in this VERY situation.

There were a few people who assumed that they'd be invited. In one case, I told the person that our guest list was too out of control and that it needed to be cut so even though I wanted to have all of my friends there, it just wasn't possible. DH had to say this, too. It worked out very well.
In another case, my MOH was involved in the conversation and had no problem with just saying, 'Mel's not inviting you.'

Yes! We invited one couple from a family of 6. Well this lady got the invite and made hotel reservations for her everyone! The only reason I knew is when I called the hotel for an updated list of who reserved rooms.
Lucky for us four of the people had recently moved, so we played the 'your invite got returned to us, what's your new address' card.

Interesting. I'll have to ask her.
To make the situation more fun & exciitng, the non-guest is one of my best friends,so I wodl proabably be the one to say something. She is an ex-girlfriend of the groom, which is why he is not inviting her. He also dated another friend of ours AGES ago & she also lives out of state & IS invited, but they are still good friends.
The univited one &the groom don't talk much ( according to him) but we have friends in common & they are social at events.
Thank you all for your answers. I'd probably cave & invite her ( his FW agrees) , but he seems really set against this. And they are having a huge wedding , so they can't really say they are keeping it small & have to cut back.

This happened with 3 people (1 couple, 1 single). The couple we invited because they are friends of my IL's, but the single we did not invite. She was an estranged friend at the time - I was frankly quite upset with her because of a NWR problem. She never said anything directly to us, but told a mutual friend that she assumed she was invited. She did actually send us a gift after the wedding, which made me feel bad, but we had our limit.

Re: Was there anyone NOT invited to your wedding who assumed they were?
yup!
DH's friend and his wife from TX assumed they were invited to our wedding and bought plane tickets we found this out from his other friend in TX that was invited.
DH and I got into a HUGE fight over this b/c we had a very small wedding and left quite a few people out that we would have rather had invited than him & his wife. DH refused to tell him 'sorry, you're not invited'. So I refused to mail them an invite. DH hand wrote their name and address on the envelope and put US flag stamps on it.
They came to the wedding and he even went to DH's bachelor party. I have to admit, it was nice having them there. they're a great couple. he's a real TX cowboy - tall, handsome and wears his hat everywhere. he was quite a hit with the ladies at the wedding

Re: Was there anyone NOT invited to your wedding who assumed they were?
I was debating back and forth about inviting my dads cousins and a few of their kids... There are a lot but I only see a few of them. I wanted to invite just those few and not the others because our guest list was so big.
My grandfather took it upon himself to tell my dads OTHER cousins that some of them may be invited but not all of them... which POed all of the non invited.... (this was all before I had even sent an invite).
So I think my other cousins who I wanted to invite, assumed they were invited (if word spread fast enough)... in the end we didn't invite anyone as not to start WW3.
I don't think it bothered them too much... we got an invite to one of their weddings yesterday

There were a few people who assumed they would be invited, but due to the room size and costs, they weren't invited. One couple was invited after the original set of invites went out, but not to anyone else.

Yes my uncle who lives in Canada assumed his stepdaughter who I have not seen since 1981 would be invited... ummm... I wouldn't know her if she fell on me.
Oh, and my cousins were mad I didn't invite their kids. My wedding was 94 people but if I invited everyone's kids there would be an additional 51 children. Yes, one of my cousins has NINE kids I said no and stood firm... it was a wedding NOT a birthday party

Re: Was there anyone NOT invited to your wedding who assumed they were?
yes and i felt bad about it. it was someone i work with but we were paying for most of the wedding ourselves and we had limited space. and at that point everyone was saying yes to the wedding. i didnt want to be rude and invite her once i had the space. so i didnt. i still feel bad but what am i going to do??? its done and over with.
