We bought our first home and we closed last week without a hitch!!! We don't move in until the middle of November, but this is so exciting!!! We managed to pull it off within 6 months of our wedding!! Believe me when I say that we're shocked!!
Anyway, I haven't been here in a while but I wanted to share...
Is everyone enjoying married life as much as I am?? I am truly loving it and wish I had done it sooner!!

I know how you feel -- we found a house and are going thru the whole process right now-- we hadnt planned to buy a house this quickly(next week is 6 months) so it has been a bit overwhelming

Yes, the magnitude of the debt is very heavy, but I figure better this than the apartment that we looked at in May that was $200 less than our mortgage payment!!!
Anyway, We looked for about 1 1/2 years and found NOTHING that we loved! I asked my family early on to sell us their home, but they didn't want to... then the urge to downsize hit them, and they wanted to keep the house in the family so voila!!
However it wasn't easy at all--first and foremost we BOUGHT the house so there were no freebies... It took us 2 months to agree and sign the contract, b/c we argued over every detail and it went back and forth from our attorney to their attorney for weeks!! Then finally we went to contract and but then our mortgage broker was a schmuck so we had to change brokers and ultimately went with IDEAL MORTGAGE BANKERS 516-293-1212 & worked with Hilda Gamba (ext 204) and she was FAST, honest, and forthright with EVERYTHING!! Believe it or not she made it a great experience from the start b/c she told us the truth and worked with us. From start to finish (once we left the other company and worked with her) it was 5 weeks & we were ready for a closing date!!! Also, even though it was family, our attorney played hardball and is WONDERFUL!!! Again, straightforward and works for the benefit of his client, even though the buyer and sellers are family, our interactions were completely by the book!! His name is Andrew Nachamie (Rockville Centre) 516-678-6288. He specializes in Real Estate law. VERY AFFORDABLE TOO!!!!
Anyway, we move in the middle of November and we're very excited!!! We're in Nassau and we're slowly shopping for furniture!
