We still don't have our TY's out and.....

we received 2 Thank You's today to weddings we attended AFTER ours!!!

I'm really slacking!!

don't worry, i waited about 6 or 7 months & there are plenty of newlyweds who slacked even more so don't feel bad
just ignore your family asking 'did it get lost in the mail? '

ours didn't go out until 7-8 months later....

you have a year - no worries!

I am not saying that it is awful if you take a long time getting the thank yous out, because I know it is a pain - but it is a myth that you have a year and I wouldnt want people taking their time because they believe that.

Here's the thing though - we didn't receive our pictures until 6 months after the wedding. After ordering samples of TY cards, and placing the final order - we were at a month later. We' were then at 7 months to NO fault of our own....we filled them out pretty much within a week of getting them....

i think it's all in your judgement...absolutely NOTHING about our wedding was 'standard' or anything...

We received a few comments about it - but once the cards went out - people said, now i see why it took so long....

I totally understand that - it makes sense BUT etiquette wise, I dont want people to think that they have a year and wait on the thank yous because of that - even if they HAVE their pictures, bc it IS a myth.

I had mine out within three months and to be 100% honest I would have sent out NON picture thank yous out if it was going to tak any longer than that bc I am psychotic with stuff like that - I had my shower thank yous done the night of my shower and mailed out the next day!

i didnt get my proofs until AFTER 3 months. Normally she does it quicker but the summer was real busy and she had to travel for weddings out of the country a couple of times. So it really depends on the situation. Theres others who wait even longer for their proofs.

I dont know but after the wedding i dont wait for the TY cards, wheni get it i think oh yeah thats right. But i guess others are different and after a wedding they wait expecting it from the couple. I dont even remember if all weddings ive attended i got a TY card, im sure for most i did but if you asked me who didn't or who took long i dont know

Why is it okay etiquette to have a year to give a gift....but to send out thank you cards - they have to go out right away....

I know what you mean - when i get a thank you I am like 'oh when WAS this wedding' it is not like i have a countdown going on my calendar

Yes, I am one of those slakers lol...I didnt send out my TY's until after our 1yr anniversary...talk about slacking..I am prob. the queen of the slackers lol. I wouldnt stress it

I think the thank you rule is like the gift rule... you may have one year technically, but most people expect to get gifts and thank yous before a year. it might be proper, but if 8 months pass and there's no gift from someone, most couples will assume none is coming. same thing with a thank you.

i know my parents have complained about not receiving a thank you from a wedding they attended in june, but i think the fact that they never got a thank you for the shower gift or engagement gift contributed to that. i sent out non-photo thank yous that matched our invites and had them all out by the 1 month mark of our wedding date. we got a lot of comments from guests

i'm not saying you need to do them THAT fast, but I think ettiquette or not, anything after 6 months is a long time...

Just do 'em as fast as you can, if you dont have the cards yet there is nothing you can do.... but once they are done you will feel much better.

I agree!!! Why would anyone wait a year to give a gift? I would be so embarassed to do that

But as far as friends and family waiting for their TYs...I get so paranoid about things like that... whenever I think about it, I casually mention in conversations each step of the TY card process haha...i.e. today I mentioned that we just ordered our TY cards to one of my aunts (who is a stickler for etiquette) and yesterday I said the same thing to one of my friends (just in case they are talking behind my back lol) I think a lot of people don't understand the process behind getting photo TYs and how much time it takes. But I wouldn't worry, just get them out before the holidays so you won't get stressed...your wedding wasn't that long ago for people to be wondering where they are!
