so now that you have experienced the whole wedding thing for yourself what would be a fair monetary gift for a friend not that close of a friend for there wedding taking place at a somw what high end facility

Re: wedding gift
i think the value of a gift should increase depending on the closeness of the relationship and not the location of the wedding-sorry if that sounds harsh

$200 - covers the couple and is a decent amount.

Re: wedding gift
I feel that $200 in average, so if you want to go above and beyond for this person, give over that amount.

Re: wedding gift
I went to a wedding a year ago at a very expensive place where there was no way we were covering our plates...Unless of course we took out a home equity loan!
All kidding aside, we gave $200. I had given the bride a nice shower gift and felt that $200 was enough since the bride is a friend, but we're not terribly close.

That doesn't even come close to covering the couple at a high end facility.
$300 or $350

Girls I'm sorry but I just don't think $200 is average in this day and age - I think $300 is the norm/average...
ETA: Sorry for crashing the Newlywed board....I guess I should report back after my own wedding but in my mind....$200 just isn't the average these days. Guess I will see for myself soon enough.

Re: wedding gift
Up until my own wedding I had thought that the average these days was $300, $250 at a minimum but the average gift we received was $200. Personally, I am still giving $300 for the average person- more if its a family member or close friend.

I figured the average was $250 but we wound up getting about $200 on average (a handful of relatives gave more) but quite a few people gave much less too!!! I think $250 is sufficient.

Re: wedding gift
100 does NOT cover the plate all the time anymore- some of my guests took that into consideration, some people gave what they could afford, some gave MUCH less and nowhere near covered there plate...it varies, you can expect people to cover the palte if it is a lot of $$$...esp. if people are not that close. I would give what you can afford-based on your closeness... Average I would say is 250.00, if you feel like you can afford to give more , thats great... if not I would stick with that #.
