We received a check from my mother's cousin as a wedding gift and my bank notified us that the check bounced. We are in the process of writing thank you card and what should we say in the card? Should we call them and let them know that their check bounce or just leave it alone?

That happened to me too...I called to notify them...i said im not sure if you know but your check bounced. And she said she knew she got a letter from the bank. She apologized like crazy and said he will send me another check (which I wasn't expecting) but i never got that either so i let that go...oh well

duh that is so true. I always see threads posted asking whether they should let the person know that their check was bounced and how to handle the situation. Truth is they do know, they send you a letter and its on your statement. Maybe they won't know RIGHT after they gave it to you but soon enough they do find out.

Re: Wedding Gift
They will know their check bounced it happened to us and the people knew before we did and called us to tell us their check bounced. It happens I guess what can you do, you still thank them of course for being there regardless of the situation, IMO.

Re: Wedding Gift
Like espo said, they get a note in the mail so I don't think you need to bring it to their attention.
I'd just simply write, 'Thank you so much for sharing our day with us. We were thrilled that you were able to make it'
Something that doesn't mention a gift.

i had the same thing happen to me, twice. both people approached me the next time i saw them with apologies. but i never got the $.
i agree with the poster above - just write a thank you for having them come to the wedding and help you celebrate.

Isn't there a fee attached when bouncing a check on both sides?

Yes there is and that's where I get annoyed. My fathers check bounced and while I do believe it was strictly an error (he gave me a check from the wrong account) I incurred other fees. THANKFULLY i hadn't attempted to pay any other bills with his gift.
BUT I still haven't gotten a new check nor any mention of the fees I had taken out of my account.
I'd rather you just give me nothing.
