wedding gown preservation?

i got teh dress dry cleaned 6mths ago and it's hung up in my closet. i don't want preserve it, yet, bcause i'm hearing it's stored in a box and i have absolutely no room another big box. thinking about doing the preservation thing when we actually buy a house and where there's ample space. so for now i'm inquiring on this matter....

does anyone know how it's preserved? what's the process? i can't open teh box at all once preserved? are there specified instructions once preserved gown-in-a-box is received? ie store in a damp, dark room, or etx? is it actually long lasting (lifetime)? what do they do to prevent it from discoloring or whatever alterring effects? am i able to do this myself somehow?

Mine has a window so I can see it. Yes, you can open it.

I probably wont very much, oils on your hands can get it dirty.

is that all it is? dry clean the dress and put it in a box? that sounds simple enough. is this a special type of box? do i store in a light-free area? is this an air tight box? and blah blah blah... i really don't mean to be trigger happy with the questions.. i just would like to absorb all there is to know about this process. thank you gals so much!

Mine is being done my J. Scheer in NYC. They are THE place to get dresses preserved. Check out their website. They explain the whole process. You shouldn't wait too long to get it preserved. Also, the dress should not be sealed in a box. You are supposed (if it is preserved properly) to open the box and handle the dress.
