Weight Loss Despair!

Maybe im doing something wrong and im not even sure what it is, but I joined the gym like 3 weeks ago, and still have not lost 1 freaking pound. I cut out all cakes/butter/chips/soda. The only “sugar” I guess I am having is once a day I take 2 tsps in the morning inside my tea. I am eating healthy, cooking everything in little oil, or trying to grill it, having whole wheats, etc etc. I have been going to the gym 4 times a week each for 1.5hr. I run/than powerwalk on the treadmill sometime alternate with the elliptical. Every Thursday I am taking a pilates class. Am I expecting results too soon?? I feel great after the work outs, and I sweat. It has DONE WONDERS for my skin!!!!! but other than that..nothing :sighs:

what has worked for u?? when u go to the gym what machines do u use?? ...just wondering

I don't mean to pry, but do you have to work out? Are you in need of losing weight?? If not, then your body may be at it's perfect weight and you are just maintaining it now.

It seems to me you are doing everything right so far, I would give it another couple of weeks, if you don't see any change, then maybe you want to change your diet.

Maybe you should try cutting the carbs out completely. See if that makes a difference. I know you said you are eating whole grains, but maybe you should cut that out and see how that goes :)

Edit: I wasn't saying you need to lose weight lol I am just saying that from what I have read, alot of people who haven't been able to lose anymore, it was due to their bodies just telling them 'im good' :)

Hummm I'm not sure it sounds like you are doing a lot and should probably see results within the time frame you're speaking of. How many meals do you eat a day? do you eat past a certain hour? do you snack? I don't know what it could be!

You're probably building muscle which weighs 2x's more than fat - so your body is probably swapping fat for muscle.

I was going to say that. Is there any change whatsoever in the way that your clothes are fitting?? Cause I've experienced it where the scale will not change, but then I've gone down a size in my jeans. It's just muscle taking over your fat. I hate that tho because I want to SEE the scale move!!!!

Also, cutting out carbs does help a lot, but it's HARD to do. A couple summers ago I was on a mission to lose weight as quick as possible. I cut out all carbs for 2 months and lost 20 pounds. The problem is, however, that if you do cut out carbs completely, you'll gain back weight sooo fast when you start eating them again. So what I did was I just ate healthy cabs, but only once a week. That way my body didn't get used to NOT having it anymore.

Make sure you're drinking enough water (64 ounces each day) but don't overdue it because then you'll retain it and get bloaded. And try not to eat anything after 8pm. Usually when you feel like you're hungry, your body is really dehydrated, so drink water instead of getting a snack.

Also, are you anywhere near your period too? Cause I've seen people gain up to 5 pounds just from that and then it goes back down again after. For me, I'll start feeling slight cramps and a little bloaded up to 2 weeks before (i guess when i'm ovulating) and then i'll be okay once it's over. Just curious if it's around that time for you, which could be maybe stopping the weightloss until that 'time of the month' has passed.

lol. I can feel the weightloss counselor in me is coming out again

Its not always about weight - although we always equate that number to 'success'. At our fitness facility we work with clientele to establish both healthy eating, exercise, BMI and also taking measurements to help them feel they are achieving their goals. Also, some people's bodies take a few weeks to adjust to changing eating and exercise patterns. Do NOT get frustrated YET I know that's hard to hear - but you are doing the right things!!! Try keeping a log of your BMI and body fat percentage (if available at your fitness facility) as well as measurements. Weigh in every other week and do BMI/body fat and measurements once a month.

Muscle does not weigh more than fat but it is denser, meaning while your weight might be the same your clothes may be fitting a bit better. I would keep up the gym routine. It took me about a month to see results.

Another suggestion is increasing your intensity level and doing intervals. Your body probably needs a jump start and this will do it.

ETA: I plateaued over the summer and then increased my daily workout by 5 minutes and dropped about 3 more pounds.
