Well it's official....

I finally changed my name yesterday....
I was a little bummed to be honest, but seeing how happy DH was that I finally went made it a little bit easier (I stress the little!!)
I will miss my last name so much!

Re: Well it's official....

It must be so hard!

I had a hard time changing my name on the marriage license. Actually, we had to go back to City Hall two times. The first time we hyphenated my name, and the second time I actually changed it to his.

It's definitely hard to let go.

Aww, I know how you feel. I was so happy to take DH's name but at the same time to give up my family name hurt. Especially because my Dad passed away and there are no boys to keep the name going.

I am so glad I'm not the only one who feels that way. I have yet to make any changes to anything. And the other day I signed my married name for the first time (b/c DH was standing there) and ugh, I hated it! I'll get over it eventually though.

I feel exactly the same way Helen!!! my dad also passed away, and had 3 sons in his first marriage, so our name is still out there, but I'm really second guessing that I didn't hyphenate!!!

congrats on changing Dana!!! sorry you're feeling down!! I can relate!

Re: Well it's official....

It is a part of who you are. It meant a lot for DH and I like his name because people don't mispronounce it as much as my maiden name. I changed it almost everywhere-I have to do my passport (under a year-free)

I was considering keeping my maiden for work-I still have to go on the record in court with my maiden name (that is what the Bar has me as)-I am so confused already (which probably was not difficult). I considered hyphenating it until someone mentioned that I would sound like my own law firm I sent my name change to the NY Bar today.

Maybe you can keep your name in one or two places. I am too dense to keep track. For me, it is easier to use his name (I am a traditionalist), and I have a brother who will carry on the family name.

I feel the same way. I'm really going to miss my name! I still haven't changed it on anything yet. My work still has everything listed under my maiden name, I even sign for UPS and FedEx under my maiden name.

Same here! My new signature is so ugly...I guess I have to keep practicing until its perfect!

I know exactly how you feel!! I felt like crying when I left the SS office. I went to get it changed right away though, because I knew if I procrastinated, I'd never change it - I wanted to keep it soooo badly. I still haven't changed it over on any of my credit cards or my email address and I probably won't for awhile still. I just can't fully let go.
