Well name change is official!

Well it is official! I went to the Social Security office and the secretary of state (MI's DMV) and officially changed my name!!!! I even got to do it as I wanted (per the suggestion of the women at the SSC office) first name, maiden name, newlastname.

I will be doing my passport in a few days for my cruise in August.

They wanted my driver's license, marriage license and if I had it my SS card. BUT this is out in Michigan - we were in and out in like 20 mins and they were VERY nice. They told me I would have the new card in 2 weeks and if I don't receive it by then to call immediately and let them know.

lol I did't have much choice - we are doing the second part of our honeymoon in August (DH had to go back to school so we had a short honeymoon) and I need to renew my passport becuase it expires in Oct and it has to been good for 6 months after the cruise -so it made no sense to renew then change my name in august - so I rushed to get it all done quickly - it is SOOO strange seeing my name on things

I agree about seeing your new name - it's still weird for me to hear it too. I hear Mrs. M and I think of my MIL, not me

Me too!
I got my new credit cards and new SS card yesterday and just went to License X-press on 34th St. this morning to get my new license!
I agree... SOOOO weird to see my new name!

For you guys who did your name changes at DMV, did you change just your license this quickly....or the title's and registrations too?

I tried but since my father bought me the car (title is ONLY in my name but he is listed as a cosigner and he is paying for it) but wanted the car to be in my name alone - so the DMV told me I had to have a letter from the fiance place first so I have to do that now - but I tried to change it - they told me in MI I don't have to change this stuff by law that is my choice - but I want them all to match - but for now just changed the license

Make sure if you change your title that if it is not totally paid off (as in any bank payments left) you have have to get a letter from them first to change the title with the DMV
