Were you able to put your DH'S on you health insurance before marriage?
I heeard if I can prove I live with him I can put him on my insurance now before we get married. Anybody do this? thanks!!!

Nope. You need to be legally married. In some states you can be legal partners- such as common law marriages but it takes a long time to prove typically and most employeers/insurance companies do not want to do it. Good luck.

Yup. We did this long before we were even engaged. It falls under a companies 'domestic partner' clause. It was set up for homosexual couples but they can't not allow you and your FI because you are not. Not all companies have this. We didn't even have to show proof. Good lick.

I think it depends on your company's policy. DH and I each have our own insurance through our employers, but, before we got married I was thinking of going over to his plan - He checked with his company and they said that yes, I could be added even if we weren't married. They said we needed to have lived together for, I think it was 3 years or something and we needed to have proof and a joint checking account. So, I would check with them.

it depends on teh Co. Ours does, but under 'domestic coverage' which could apply to same sex relationships as well. It's a little pricier, but definitely better than no coverage!
You just need to prove financial interdependence to one another.

Thanks!! I am going to give it a try. I have his license, and a bunch of bills, plus my license with our address and bills. We'll see what happens. Maybe there is something in my contract that can get him in. We are getting married in February, so If I don't get him on my policy this month, he won't be able to get health insurance til next September. I am a big stickler on having health insurance. Thank you girls for your help!!

Oh Man!! I hope we don't need joint accounts or anything. Because of child support issues we don't have joint anything and we never will. Darn!!

yes, you will - my co. needs a copy of a lease or mortgage agreement, credit cards, etc. There's a whole IRS list of what's needed to show proof. Sorry

You did not have to show anything like that at my previous company. Just 'proof', which could have been a cc bill of his that came to your address, postmarked 6 or more months ago.

Just so you know, you wouldn't have to wait until next Sept if you got married in Feb. A marriage qualifies as a 'life event' and by law you have 30 days from the life event to add your new hubby to your insurance.
Also like the other girls said, you should be able to add him as a domestic partner if you've lived together and can prove financial dependence.

I wasnt able to, but now my school dsitrict...our new contract says that you can put your partner on your health insurance..as long as you were living with each other for a year

We were going to use that 'domestic partner' clause but DH got caught in a loophole at his job so we just decided to wait til we were married. At his company, I think you have to apply for it within 6 months of when you prove you moved in together and DH gave the wrong date and it got screwed up - so we weren't eligible.

Yes, you could do Domestic Partner as mentioned above. We were going to do it but then decided against it b/c they wanted tax returns and all sorts of c r ap for it, so we decided it would be easier when we could just hand in a marraige license

I was able to add Al to my policy - CA honors domestic partnerships and my insurance covered it.
