what am I doing WRONG!? - dog question...

My puppy is now almost 8 months and STILL is pooping in the house!

She goes out at around 6:00 am and does 'everything', eats breakfast and gets put back into our bed with my husband so I can leave for work. He takes her out at around 9:00. She pees and gets gated in the kitchen. I come home around 6:00 and she does 'everything'. She eats around 7:30 and goes out once more before bed to do both again (maybe 10:00).

Here is the problem. She always poops in the house after her 6:00 time, but before her dinner! It's like she refuses to let it all out at one time!. She doesn't have accidents in the kitchen during the day. She doesn't have accidents in the bed. She can definitely hold it and control it. I just don't GET IT! It is SO frustrating. I use Natures Miracle every time, I restrict her from her 'favorite' spots, I even have fed her on TOP of a favorite spot. And when I do catch her and yell bad girl she just wags her tail!

Any advice?

What is she doing when she goes in the kitchen after her 6pm time? Are you cooking or not paying attention to her?? Sometimes it's a spite thing. I say take her out and leave her out for a bit at the 6pm time until she goes...our pup can run around and play for a half hr before she realizes she's gotta go. And lotsof praise when she finally gets it!!

She goes after you just let her out? Sounds like she may be spiteful. Maybe its because she is annoyed she was left alone all day. If she goes before you let her out, it may be too long for her to hold it in.

Re: what am I doing WRONG!? - dog question...

she NEVER goes during the day when I am not there. Which is great. I think the real problem is we dont' have a fenced in yard, so I have to walk her - so when it's been like 20 minutes, I am thinking enough and she might be thinking, in another 5 minutes I am going to poop again!

Although i do think spite factors in - I totally think she does it on purpose sometimes!

Re: what am I doing WRONG!? - dog question...

I was very lucky with my puppy and she was housebroken within a few weeks but she did occasionally do the spite thing and she grew out of that. (one time she peed on my sister's pillow when she was sleeping over because my sister wasn't petting her lol).

I would say try walking your dog a little bit more. And praise the heck of of it when it 'does its business' outside. We also have to walk our dog and we take her out alot. Once when I wake up in the morning....once before I leave for work....once before hubby leaves for work....then alone all day for about 10 hours (no accidents)....then she goes out at least 3 times at night. Your puppy will eventually learn the routine.

Good luck.

I know how you feel!!! My puppy is 11 months old and is still peeing in the house. (At least it's on the linoleum) It's just driving my insane... it's so disgusting to have to clean it up all the time!!!

I think some dogs just learn faster than others. When we had a puppy many years ago, we left him in the spare bathroom with newspapers on the floor and he learned very quickly. Good luck.

Re: what am I doing WRONG!? - dog question...

weewee pads were our best friends...lol

but at the dog park we take our dog to there is a 9 month old that his 'parents' are always waiting for him to poop...and I think he knows that when he poops they go home...so he doesn't

I heard somewhere that you should have a phrase to say when they go...like 'go potty' we say it all the time...and always say good boy when he goes (still...lol)...so when you want him to go...you can say 'go potty' an they will go...

Re: what am I doing WRONG!? - dog question...

erica - when i tell her to 'go peepies Abbey' she squats immediately! Of course when I say 'go poopies' she squats as well. I realize those two commands may be too close! I have to think of a good one...maybe that would work....
