What can I bring to a BBQ that's cool and unusual?
Original post by LuvMyAlfonse
People are already bringing salads, desserts, fruit salad...
A couple of people are PG so I would rather not bring something alcoholic...
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I brought this to a party once and it was really good. I skipped the scallions and I'd cut down on the parsley, it was too much
Buffalo Chicken balls
Ingredients
* 1 pound ground white meat chicken * 1/2 small onion, grated * 2 cloves garlic, grated * 1/2 cup parsley, chopped * Salt and freshly ground black pepper * Extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO), for drizzling * 2 tablespoons butter * 1/2 cup hot sauce (such as Frank’s) * 3 scallions, green and white parts thinly sliced * Store-bought, good quality bleu cheese dressing for dipping * A couple of handfuls celery sticks * A couple of handfuls carrot sticks
Preheat oven to 400ºF.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken with the onion, garlic and parsley, and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Flatten out the meat in the bowl and score it into four portions using the side of your hand. Shape each portion into four balls – you should have sixteen meatballs in total.
Arrange the meatballs on a nonstick sheet pan and drizzle them with EVOO. Place in the oven and bake until the meatballs are cooked through and golden brown, about 10-12 minutes.
While the meatballs are baking, melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the hot sauce and whisk to combine. Toss the baked meatballs in the hot sauce to coat.
Transfer the meatballs to a serving platter and spike each one with a toothpick or serving fork. Place the bleu cheese dressing in a small serving bowl and garnish with scallions. Serve the meatballs with the bleu cheese dressing, celery and carrot sticks alongside.

Mud or sand for dessert. Kid's beach pails are on clearance everywhere now...make either one or both and put them in pails!

Stuff to make Smores. We had that at a BBQ recently & it was SO much fun. People roasted their marshmallows over the grill.

I'm famous for this 'Pesto Cheese Blossom' from Paula Deen. It's super easy and Mucho Delicious
1 (8-ounce) package sliced provolone cheese 2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, at room temperature 20 pistachios, shelled 2 cloves garlic 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves 1/2 cup fresh parsley leaves 1/2 cup pine nuts 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 3 ounces oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes
Line a medium bowl with plastic wrap, leaving enough overhang to cover the top. Reserving 3 slices of the provolone, line the bottom and sides of the bowl with the remaining provolone, overlapping the slices. For the cream cheese layer, process the cream cheese, pistachios, and 1 of the garlic cloves in a food processor until blended; scrape the mixture into a bowl and set aside. For the pesto layer, process the basil, parsley, pine nuts, and the remaining garlic clove in the food processor until blended. Dissolve the salt and pepper in the olive oil and mix well.
With the machine running, add the oil in a fine stream. Scrape this mixture into a second bowl and set aside. For the tomato layer, drain the tomatoes, reserving the oil. Puree the tomatoes with a small amount of the reserved oil in a food processor. Spread some of the cream cheese mixture over the cheese slices lining the bowl. Layer the pesto mixture, half of the remaining cream cheese mixture, the sun-dried tomato mixture, and then remaining cream cheese mixture in the bowl. Cover with the remaining provolone. Bring the edges of the plastic wrap together over the top and secure with a twist tie. Freeze until firm. Remove the plastic wrap and invert the mold onto a serving platter. Serve with party crackers. This will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 months.
Or you can make sauteed onion dip, Sour Cream, Whipped cream cheese, sauteed onions, worstershire sauce, and a little hot sauce!
This looks and sounds delish . I also like the idea of a 7 layer dip

At our work BBQ a few years back, someone decided to do a pig roast-brought a whole pig and a microwave
But if you are trying to keep friends, how about mini tacos? They have them at Trader Joe's and they are sooooo good!

How about a dirt cake. Buy a clean flower pot for the first layer - graham cracker crumbs mixed with 2 tablespoons melted butter and 3 strings rock candy (for mulch) 2 packages of jello vanilla pudding with 1/2 cup of confectionary sugar mixed with 1 package of cream cheese for the second layer. 2 packages chocolate pudding for the third layer. Top with Chocolate crumbs as dirt! Decorate with gummy bugs and worms Stick an artificial flower into the top to complete your presentation. I hope this makes sense i have to run to a meeting!
