What can I make with?

Beef stew meat.... I was going to make beef stew (first time and figured it would be yummy on a snowy day like this) but all the recipes says it takes like 3-4 hours!

Any other ideas for me? All recipes welcome!!! Please post!

I was just going to ask about the crock pot. If you don't have one maybe you can make a stir fry type dish

I made beef stew last night - it came out delicious. Do you have a crockpot? Just cook it in the crockpot for 2-3 hours on high. It's ready when you can cut the meat and vegetables with a spoon. A tightly covered pot on low heat would work at well - bring the liquid to a simmer.

Cut up the stew into chunks - coat with flour and brown in a pan using butter or olive oil.

Add browned meat, cut up carrots and potato chunks, 2 cups of water, and one can of beef broth (make sure that is enough liquid to cover the beef & veggies). If you have onion soup mix add that - if not add chopped onion for flavor. You might also want to add a beef bouillon cube, if you do not have the soup. Salt and pepper to taste. Right before serving, use either flour or corn starch to thicken gravy.

Thanks for all the ideas. Unfortunately, since we live in a teeny NYC apartment, my slowcooker is in my mom's basement

I think I may try a stir fry dish!

Thanks for responding ladies!

Re: What can I make with?

stew beef is usually a tougher cut of meat so it's better if cooked for a long time in liquid.

I've made pepper steak w/ the stew meat once and it was so tough to eat. I would cut it into small peices so they get more sauce coverage.

I might cut up the meat in smaller pieces and then make the stew. Just to maybe cut down the time... Thanks for the heads up!]

Re: What can I make with?

my family has been making this for years...it's delish & something a little different

2-3lbs. of stew beef
1large onion chopped
2large fat cans of Hunts tomato sauce
LOTS of parsley
1lb. penne
2 knorr beef bulions
1/2 stick butter
s&p
----------------------------

*Cut stew beef into sqaures...

1) In large pot - brown onion in 1/2 stick of butter untill soft - add stew beef stirring occasionally & continue browning untill onion & beef are brown.

2) Add about 2 cups of hot water; break up bullions with fingers and add to pot.

3) add both cans of sauce & a real lot of parsley. bring to a boil & then put setting to low & simmer..let cook & stir frequently.

4) add a little pepper to tase...taste before u add salt, and if needed add a little

5) Put up water for pasta and cook according to directions.

Top Pasta with beef and sauce..enjoy with a nice salad & some italian bread
enjoy!

Cooking time total should be about 1hour so beef simmers to nice & tender...can be a little longer if needed.

I make a Puerto Rican dish called carne guisada which is beef stew. It takes a full hour to cook and I make it with white rice.

Do you by any chance have a pressure cooker? It cooks just like the crockpot but in less than half the time...you can make beef stew in about an hour on the stove with it
