we need a gavel and those things you raise. I would phone in my bids, b/c I would not want anyone to know that I want any of the bad gifts especially the mismatched earrings or the dirty sweater.

Does the 'swap meet' require any special training or physical conditioning? Or, do my years of bargain hunting/shopping count toward my conditioning?? LMAO!!

I thought of a gift we got...a lottery ticket (with cash)...it would have been so cool if we won...but then would we have to split it?

Alright, I was out to lunch and I am back to see what items are left on the auction block...come ladies list your goodies and see what they go for.

Natasha, your figurines is so rear *read ugly* we can't even put a price on it

Jen you could use the sweater to dust off the boxes that have been left in the basement before we put them out for bidding

Re: What did people buy you off your registry that you didn't register for and did NOT want?

Wow, I can't believe I am just getting into this thread for the first time now. I feel like I've missed out on all the fun. hehe. I'm with all of you who are grateful for the generosity of my friends and family, but faced with the unfortunate situation of having a stack of gifts that will never be used. That doesn't make me angry at the giver, just annoyed by clutter! hehe

For me the problem gifts were Vases and Candlesticks! I didn't want or need any of either, and got about 8 vases, and 6 sets of candlesticks! (I had plenty of vases already, and I'm not a fan of long candles, I'm worried about them falling and the wax dripping!)

I'm also guilty of using ebay to clear some of the clutter. I sold a decorative bowl that just wasn't my taste and a merchandise credit to Tiffany...

I would never buy a decorative gift for someone unless I had been to their home and was absolutely certain that it was something that they would chose for themselves. I'm shocked how many people out there assume that their taste must be the same as everyones, and buy decorative items never having seen how you live.

That being said -- I got another decorative bowl from someone who was a friend of the ILs parents (who I had never met, so they had no clue about my taste) that was absolutely perfect -- matched all our colors and now sits in the center of our dining room table. That was a nice surprise.

We got a few strange gifts. I honestly think two of them were re-gifted.(You know, given to them and so they dumped it on us.)

I can't believe I totally forgot about my (now infamous) SIL's toasting glasses. She asked if she could buy them for us so I figured they would have our names engraved on them or something. I am plain with things, she is not. She gives us these Czechoslavakian hand painted PINK glasses with splatters of gold all over them. I should take a picture of them but somehow they never made it to our wedding . They were OK, but exactly HER style and so not mine but they weren't 'wedding' at all with all that hand painted stuff on them.

OK, bidding starts with a paperclip, do I hear paper clip anyone?

Before any bidding you must post a pix of an item that is close to the ugly thoughtless gift that you got. Because like ebay we cannot have people fooling around, offering things they do not have for sale...Remember the body parts on sale on EBAY, we do not want that here. All bidding is closed until you show proof of ownership of ugly gift

Please don't pay me any mind ladies I am so looney today

Oh my goodness I could keep you entertained for hours with the Christmas and end of the year gifts I receive from students, but I'll just tell you about the WORST gift I got this year...
The award goes to MIL for giving me SHOE POLISH for Christmas!

I have a $hitload of costume jewelry, 10 zillion coffee mugs, and 5 trees worth of #1 teacher Christmas ornaments if anyone is interested...
