Shamma indicated that she is selling her dress. I had mine preserved. I figured I could cut the bottom and make something for my child. Okay, my husband just came in the room, so I told him my idea and he said no. His daughter (he seems to think we will have a daughter) will not be wearing anything from my dress.
I just wanted to get an idea what other people have done with theirs.

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I preserved my gown too. And, I think the idea of using something from your gown for your child is wonderful. Don't let your hubby's opinion change your mind if that's what you really want to do.
I plan on making a christening dress from the train of my gown...I would have already, but we had a little boy and since my gown had rum pink in it, I didn't think it would be appropriate unless a little girl was going to wear it. I'll have to wait and see...

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I am having mine perserved for no particular reason, just because I want to be able to look at it forever.
A friend of mine just sold her dress on ebay for $1800!!! (It was $2700 new).

dress/cleaning charge??
I have the gown and crinlonine in my closet ...sad to say I haven't had it cleaned yet. But there were no spills or stains on it when I checked this weekend
Since I am emptying out that closet ( in the soon-to-b- nursery) I am thinking of having it cleaned.
What has everyone seen cost-wise for cleaning/preserving the gown?

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I had mine cleaned and preserved, just because I couldn't bear to part with it. I only paid about $700, so I figured what I would recoup on resale was not that significant.
My mother had hers preserved and still has it, but there wasn't a snowball's chance in H*@# that I could wear it - she's 2 inches shorter and only weighed 98 lbs. when she was married!!! No way I'd fit into that, although I sure wish it had been an option.

Re: dress/cleaning charge??
I do not think my child if we ever have any girls will want to wear it. I think if I preserve it and save it, it will only be a waste of my money. If I can reap some of what I spent on the dress then I will be a happy camper. There are no stains or anything on it. The only dirty part is the train from taking pix at Old Westbury Garden. I am not sentimental when it comes to certain things. I will have my pix and my video for my memories.
At RK bridal they are charging a fee of $155 to clean and preserve.

Re: dress/cleaning charge??
I spent $150 to have it cleaned, preserved and boxed along with my veil and headpiece. I think it is worth it b/c unlike Shamma, I am a sentimental fool and could not bear the thought of someone else wearing the gown that I wore when I took my marriage vows. Also, I am only 5'1' tall, so the chances of finding someone else that would fit the dress are very slim.
Just an FYI to those newlyweds who have not had the dress cleaned yet - if you plan on keeping the dress for many years, have them cleaned immediately. The cleaner that I used told me that although there may not be any 'visible' stains today, things like white wine, underarm perspiration and oils from your fingertips touching the gown all day can and will oxidize over the years and leave permanent stains. It's better to have the gown cleaned and perserved as soon as possible.

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I had mine preserved. I cant even think about selling my dress. It is mine, and would not anyone else to have it...other than my duaghter, if I ever have one. I have heard people using the train and having a Christeneing gown made, or using the train for a bassinette top. Im keeping mine

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I brought mine in to cleaned and preserved a couple of weeks ago. It was so hard for me to give it up! It's only costing me $50 since we brought it to the place where my husband rented his tuxedo from. They had a special running since they own the cleaners too.

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I had mine cleaned & boxed (actually its being done now). I don't know if I'll ever have a daughter that'll want to wear it (though I do have two unmarried sisters...), but I couldn't part with it.
Also, Al and I have talked about putting on our wedding attire on for our 5 year anniversary (and 10, 15, etc). We'll see if it ever happens, but I love the idea of wearing it over and over again (and I love thinking that I'll still fit into it )

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I had mine cleaned and it's hanging in my grandmother's closet. They charged me $175 to clean it and believe me it was worth it. I managed to get it filthy by the end of the night. I can't imagine parting with it. Maybe we'll renew our vows in 25 years :) and then the test will be to see if I can still fit into after all those years!

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I'm having mine cleaned and preserved too. I'm going to hang it until we move into a bigger place next year. Then, I'll box it. I'm only paying $70 in Astoria. Maybe it's b/c there is no train, and no beading, plain satin, except for the piece that goes across the chest. Another cleaner in Qns. told me $185 !!

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I am also interested in the cleaned/preserved/boxed idea. My husband went to the local dry cleaner and was quoted $450 as the starting price, and it goes up from there if there is a lot of beading. Mine has a lot. Where have you all gone for this and what was the price?

Re: What did you do with your wedding dress?
I had my done at Towne Cleaners in East Northport (Larkfield Road). My MIL is the seamstress there, so we got a deal (the owners were at our wedding). But without the deal, I think it would've been around $150- I only had beading on the bodice and not a long train.
