So I'm going to the SS office and DMV on Friday to change my name, I printed off the forms from both the sites, do each need an original copy of marriage license for each or do they take copies? b/c I think I have to call ahead to get extra originals

Re: What do I need
Once you go to the DMV they don't keep your stuff. So go to them first. Now I cannot remember if you have to leave your lic. with the SS. I don't think so.

Re: What do I need
All I needed for SS was my marriage license and drivers license. I did not leave either one there. They did it right in front of me. When I went to the DMV, they kept my license and I received a new one in the mail within a week

Re: What do I need
i did this last week ladies!
SS - they just look at your marriage certificate, they don't keep anything. i brought my marriage certificate, my license and my passport, just to be on the super safe side. i gave them the form and they handed me a receipt. all took less than 5 min. WAITING for them to see me on the other hand was a different story!
DMV - they look at your marriage certificate too. i was afraid they'd keep my old ID, but they return it to you right then and there. i had to change my address too, was worried they'd want proof of it, but I was able to just tell them and they made the change onto the new id. they give you a temporary print out of your new ID (kinda like what you get when you pass your lerner permit test)
