I just picked up our edited video last night and expected to see a 10-20 minute video but instead watched a 2 hour video. I thought when they said they would edit the video, it would be just a short snippet of shots played with background music. If this is the edited version, what do they give you for the unedited version? I'm not sure if I should go back to the company and ask them to edit the video or if this is pretty much standard procedure.

What do they mean by edited video?
That's standard. The full video would probably be closer to 3 or 4 hours or so. You have to think you have a ceremony that can between 1/2 hour to hour and a reception that's probably five hours. That's almost six hours of event time.

My edited version is only 45 minutes which is exactly what I wanted - I could sit through hours but most people get bored watching other people's wedding. The unedited tape is 3 hours. I knew that going in - that's why I booked that particular package. Did you know in advance how long the final version would be? I guess you could always have them re-edit if you are not happy, but find out if they will charge you...

We had a different experience...
Both our edited and unedited video is just about 2 and 1/2 hours. The unedited one is about 15-20 minutes longer. The main difference is that they use background music in the edited version, so that you can't hear what guests are saying during the receiving line, for example.
I was actually surprised that our raw footage wasn't much longer, but I guess the videographer just tapes what he knows he's going to need for the edit.

Thanks
Thank for everyone's input. I guess I just assumed when they said edited version that it would just be like a music video and then the unedited would have the whole thing.

That is edited. Your 6/8 hour event has been cut to 2 hours of hightlights. Some companies in addition to a recap which is 10minutes or so long.
You may want to ask for that or it is at the end of the 2 hour version.

I love my edited version, it is so much cleaner and shows all the most fun stuff. I`ve only looked at the unedited one once all the way through. Plus the music, baby & dating pics, honeymoon pics & ending in the edited version are so enjoyable to watch, like we are 'stars' in a movie. The 10 minute recap is also know as the 'husband video' because usually the brides like to watch the 2 hour version more than the husbands LOL So true in my case. I have watched our wedding video countless times and I think my hubby has seen it 2 or 3 times. He has yet to have the guys over to see it (haha) but the ladies wanted to see it of course. I just love to watch it all the time, our wedding day was so perfect.

I didn't even pick music for mine. Mine should be done soon -- and I just want to see it -- don't care about the music that much :-) The one piece I would have picked though was our dance song 'Our Love is Here to Stay' by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong -- it's our favorite!

Here's what we used:
Baby/dating photos: Singin' in the Rain - Gene Kelly
Receiving Line: What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong
Cocktail hour/photo session: I Left My Heart in San Francisco - Tony Bennett
Recap: At Last - Etta James (our wedding song!)
Alternate song: I Could Not Ask for More - Edwin McCain
Hope this helps! Most of the songs we chose had a very special meaning in our relationship (for ex., we live in San Fran hence, Tony Bennett, and we love old-time movies/musicals hence, Gene Kelly)

At Last - Etta James :-))
I think this was the 'en vogue' wedding song of 2001! It was very popular!
Beautiful, classic and very, very romantic!!
