It's considered disrespectful in their culture to call them by their first names.

But I would be disrespecting myself if I called them 'mom and dad'.

So I avoid labels entirely.

It changes all the time - Mama Z, Carol or Mom. Also kinda depends if my mom is there or not. I feel weird calling MIL mom when my mom is around.

I called MIL by her first name. Jerry doesnt call my parents anything yet. He just waits till he catches their eye to talk to them.

mami and papi. it was TOTALLY weird at first but everyone in the entire world calls them by that so it seemed unnatural to not call them it.

mom and dad, they asked DH to tell me that.

My SIL avoids it entirely, and now calls them nanny and poppa because of the baby, she'll even call us and say 'what are you getting nanny for christmas' and DH goes 'Nanny's been dead for years now, oh wait, you mean mom?'.

I dont mind it. I never call my elders by there first names unless I'm directed to.

My dad told DH flat out to be called 'tom', he didn't want to be called dad, not sure about my mom.

When talking to them, by their first names.

When talking about them, The Mom and The Dad. Always with the 'The' in front.

I usually don't say anything, and just speak to them directly...but if I do call them something, it's by their first names.

I don't speak to his mom, so I don't call her anything.
His dad, I call Papi.

My MIL said I could call them anything except Mrs. I call them mother and father or by their names. She said she doesn't like that BIL wife just talks at her and has never addressed her. Its weird calling them mom or dad because that is reserved for my parents which DH calls them by first name
