What do you give for a Christening?

I was invited to my friend's baby's christening. It is the ceremony and then a small reception afterwards. What do you give as a gift? How much should I spend? This is actually my first Christening, other than my nephew's, and I gave him a savings bond and probably gave more than I would give a friend. Any ideas? Is giving cash or check okay? How much?? Help!!!!

I would give a $100 bond...you only have to spend $50 on it.

I always give savings bonds at Christenings. For a friend, I would say you could do a $100 bond which would cost $50.

I would just give $150 cash. Since it's a friend you can even get away with buying the baby a few outfits or somekind of christening keepsake.

savings bond is always good for that..$100 bond would be perfect.

or something from things remembered...

i got my friends baby a jewelry box and engraved her name in it. they have frames and stuff

I give $100.00 unless it is at a fancy place then i give $200.00.
