What do you make of this?

What do you make of this?

When we got our proofs back from Duet, we was mainly happy with them overall but very, very disappointed in the printing quality of some of our proofs that took place on the water. Some of those shots just seemed yellowish or 'fake' looking to us.

I ended up contacting Duet and they re-printed some of ours. Most of them came out better but not all.

Here are a few examples -
(1) the original

(2) the touched-up version - not sure I like it

(3) another example of an original proof

Have other Duet brides experienced this?

Does anyone else think these pics look fake?

I see what you mean about the yellowish color in the first proof but only because you posted a corrected one and I had something to compare it with. The corrected proof looks beautiful!

I like the 3rd pic you posted. It doesnt look fake to me, its just a bright picture. I like bright pictures though so maybe thats why I dont see it.

Sorry couldnt be of more help

Just an FYI - labs usually do not spend a lot of time on color correcting proofs. The concern with a final color correct in your photo is you have a white dress, jacket and clouds. If you make one real white the others can look dingy (white is not always white). Ask them to print more toward the warmer tones. This should do the trick for you!

All The Best!

Re: What do you make of this?

Thanks, but I am honestly surprised that proofs are not color-corrected, especially since many of us keep them and put them in albums.

I am still curious as to whether other Duet brides or other brides in general found any of their proofs to have a strange color. I haven't heard any complaints before, so I was just wondering. Maybe I am being too picky about the colors in these shots, but my DH and my Mom both agreed they look weird.

Anyone?

It might be the scan but I don't think its the color that is the problem. The photo looks like it was taken with the wrong setting/film/etc.. so the details are all blown out. They should be able to dodge it by hand to bring the brightness down when you do your album.

Ididn't use Duet, but the pictures taken in my church are a little orange. I think the light coming in through the stained glass affected it,a s well as the overall low light in teh church & this shot beign taken from far away.

The album guy noriced that right away, when I showed him one I wanted to use & they corrected it & it looks good.

Proffs are not meant to be prints. They are not corrected. It would be a waste of time , money & effort to correct all the proofs, when most of them aren't going to be used.

ETA the orange proof. I dont' have a digital version of the corection, but it isn't orange at all.

Some of mine were like that too. Did they give you proofs on CD? The CD pics were much better--it really was the lab printing. I ordered some from shutterfly from the CD pics and they turned out better (which doesn't say much about the lab, but whatever...).

Here's one of mine where I loved the pic. but the colors seemed off to me...My skin seems to blur into the dress.

I didn't use Duet, and didn't have a problem with any of my proofs, but I DID have a problem with one of the prints that was going to go in my album. It was one of my favorites too, and it bothered me that the exposure was off (it was too dark). So I had them re-print it a number of times until I was happy with the way it looked.

I didn't use Duet either, I had the same thing happen to one or two of mine.

They are corrected to a certain degree. This has nothing to do with the photo studio. It's the lab that does the processing. If you are that concerned ask them to make one final 8X10 so you can see a finished print.

OK, thanks for the input! About 20 or so of our proofs look this way, but the rest are ok.

I agree with you that the issue is the lab processing, not the photo studio. Duet so far has been very accomodating about any re-print requests.

I know what you're saying...I think that they look 'fake' ask them if they can touch them up some more... or maybe it's just the way the clouds are that no matter what they do it will look 'fake'... but I totally understand what you mean...

Re: What do you make of this?

We used DUet and there were one set of proofs that looked yellow. A friend of mine is a photographer and she said it is because they used natural light instead of flash. That causes a yellowish tint. There were only a couple of those though. I'm glad to hear that they can be changed though. Overall I was very happy with Duet. I only have the proofs... Its taking us a while to choose for the albums.
