what do you think I should do.

Original post by JAAMS

I am beyond petrified of flying. I've done it twice and I swore that I would never do it again. I can't stand it. We hit a little bit of turbulence, and I completely panicked. The days leading up to the flight are horrible because I am so anxious, and I know that after the turbulence experience, I will be anxious the entire vacation.

That being said, my friends are planning a trip to Vegas in April. I would LOVE to go to Vegas with them, but I just can't get on a plane.

Do I suck it up and deal with the anxiety from now until April and during the trip about the flight home? Do I get over my fear? Or do I miss out?

I hateeee how afraid I am, but I just can't get over it!

Take some drugs and you'll be fine! A friend of mine is TERRIFIED to fly but she pops some drugs, puts on her headphones, and puts her hood up and closes her eyes. Works for her, try that!

this is harsh but its what i tell myself- 'If you were meant to die on a plane, you will die on a plane'

As someone who hates flying and has major anxiety but has flew sooo many times - xanax and/or ambien. It's the only way.

I am not a fan of flying either. I saw another warning about flying into Vegas...there is often turbulence when descending and ascending.

My suggestion - Xanax and booze! Also helps to stay up the night before so that you definitely sleep on the plane. I did that and unfortunately was delayed for hours in the airport so found myself sleeping on the floor.

ETA: Vegas is SOOOO worth the anxiety if you've never been there. It's one of my favorite places to go to!!!! Definitely go...you won't regret it!

FM me if you need to chat. I don't like to fly either, but I do regularly for work. I don't know how I get myself on the plane, but I always do, I guess because its my obligation. Sometimes I am the only passenger on the flights I take, which is freaky, but I've also gotten to sit in the cockpit of airplanes as we've taken off and landed. I feel like the saying is true - if God wanted us to stay in one place he would have given us roots. I would not have had many amazing experiences that are not available to other people if I let my fear of flying get the best of me. Don't miss out - life's too short. Have a cocktail and try to sleep. GL!!

Re: what do you think I should do.

jen, i was PETRIFIED of planes.
when i was 13 i went to fla, it was my first time flying. the flight down was fine... the flight back, was hell. i was SO sick, I wont get into detail because its really gross. but because of that flight i had stomach problems. (irony, before we went, i had to get okay'd from my dr to fly because of my ears, and my mother had found an article in the newspaper about the side-effects of flying in young girls within 2 years of their first menstrual cycle.. the dr said its a crock of *****.. well it wasn't)

anyway. I was PETRIFIED.. i missed out on A LOT of good times with friends, they went to Cancun, my brother goes to CA all the time, my ex went to Italy.. and I wouldn't go due to my fear.

well DH wanted to go back to NC (so he could propose) and he refused to drive again. so he told me to basically drug myself.
so i did.

problem was, we were grounded for HOURS due to weather and my drugs wore off... and i couldn't take more.

I sat on the plane for HOURS with no drugs.

and in the end.

it wasn't bad at all!

think about it, THOUSANDS of people fly every hour.

lots of people are nervous about flying, but you can't keep yourself from amazing experiences over something like this.

moral of the story: take drugs if you're that scared, dont miss out on life.

I would suggest seeing your gen. doctor and talking about this - a good friend of mine did this and was able to get a prescription for xanax to help her fly.

On a serious note, get professional help.

They ahve ways to make you less anxious.

It would be a shame for you to loose out on so much for the rest of your life because of it.

Good luck.

Get on the plane!!!!!! the only way to face your fears is to approach/meet them!! By staying home, you are letting your fear get the best of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
