What is DH and your income?

I hope this doesnt offend anyone. I am just curious to know what we girls make. Its a poll so you def. dont have to post your actual income.

I don't think it's mean, but I agree. I doubt anyone can make it anymore on LI without making $50k or more alone. It's ridiculous.

hahah...You'd be surprised what you can live on when you really cut back & it also depends on your situation...for example the house we live in is paid off...no mortgage....that helps BIG time...we went from a high income to a sad income when DH lost his job...and still haven't gotten anywhere close to what we used to earn because he still has not found a 'real' job...but we don't eat out anymore, or go to the movies, or rent movies, or go shopping or to the casinos or travel...yeah it stinks big time but it beats getting into debt! Hopefully this will change once i switch careers in the summer..and DH finds more clients to work with,

yeah the house being paid off helps alot. But otherwise $15k would be less thanwhat most ppl just for rent/mortgage a year. Well unless lets say rent/mortgage is $1k a month or so but even then theres all the utility bills which will make it $15k a year

If the house you live in is paid off, that's a different story. I can't imagine many girls on here are in that situation. DH and I made more than 50K each when I was working - and we never did any of the things you mentioned really - rarely ate out, never spent money on clothes really, never went to casinos, never travelled much -- and we were living paycheck to paycheck. We don't have debt, either. So unless you don't have a rent or mort. payment, I really think you need to make considerably more than 50K to live even slightly comfortable on LI. It's horrible and it's the reason we are moving in the fall - sooner if I have a really hard time finding a job.

i would seriously any couple that lives in NYC/Long Island, on less than $50K a year combined, comfortably & without struggling.

I think the #s in this poll might be a little low for our area.

To the OP, I saw that u got married in Kingston. Do you live up there? I really don't think anyone could live off of even $30,000 on Long Island. I grew up in New Paltz and my parents still live up there so I know it's a lot cheaper to live up there.

We're looking at houses on LI now and the taxes alone are almost $10,000 per year. I just don't see how anyone on LI could live on so little $.

I think I made 15K at a summer job one year! LOL. No but seriously some people may still be in college or whatnot and not make alot.

Believe me i wasn't saying we are doing on $15k!! And we are struggling to make sure bills are covered...taxes & home owners insurance alone is a big chunk of change.....i would ideally like to live in New Hampshire where you can get a nice house on a lake for like $175k and they don't have sales tax....that & DH hates NY with a passion...

We are moving to NH! So gorgeous there, super cheap and the salaries are not that much different than here - less, yes, but not as much as you'd think considering how low the cost of living is. I am excited to move, excited to own a home, but upset to leave my family and friends.
