What is everyone doing for DH for Valentine's Day?

What is everyone doing for DH for Valentine's Day?

I need ideas! Last year he made us reservations at our favorite restaurant and I cancelled them and made him an amazing (if I do say so myself...) dinner at home - I surprised him with it. He really appreciated it, and it was really romantic and fun for me.

This year, since he's unemployed, we're not exchanging gifts, nor did we for our first anniversary, but he wrote me an AMAZING poem and I felt horrible doing nothing for him. I want to make up for it somehow, and I'm not as poetic as he is...

So, how is everyone celebrating, and does anyone have any ideas that have worked in the past?

Also... just wondering, does anyone feel like V-day is not a big day anymore now that you're married? I kinda feel like everyday is V-day now... like we don't need a 'special day' to be romantic. Anyone else?

Well, I made appointments for us to get a couples massage on Saturday (Friday night we are going out to dinner with friends), but when I told him not to make any plans for Saturday evening he was whining and complaining that he HAS to study since he won't get to on Friday, so I may cancel the appointment and just get him X-Box stuff.

In answer to part 2 of your question, being that Pat works 2 jobs and goes to college, AND is studying for the lt.'s test, we don't really get to spend a lot of quality time together, so I look forward to holidays and birthdays because I know he'll always make time to be with me on special days, no matter how hectic life is.
Valentine's Day is a great reminder that we shouldn't take each other for granted.

As for gifts, I think Im going to give him a certificate for a massage. He has been goin gthrough a lot lately. Thought he could use it.

JennRenee...could I ask where you were going to have your massage?? I was going to get Jat a certifiacte from a place in Patchogue. Dont know the name of it, but I know where it is.
Any recommendations would be appreciated

Wow - a couple's massage sounds awesome!

DH and I are going to Bryant and Cooper for dinner - it's not the most romantic, but one of our favorite restaurants.

Oh, and I specifically ask him each year NOT to buy me roses - the mark up for V day is insane, and I don't want him wasting our money! I think it's even more romantic to get them on just a regular day anyway

We're spending the weekend up in VT (we have his parents condo in VT all to ourselves). I would guess we'll just spend the night in with a romantic dinner by the fire.

Diane, we are supposed to go to Atlantis in St. James. We've been there before, and it's very small and cozy. I like it a lot.

I still haven't decided if I'm going to cancel ~ I want to see how much studying he gets done this week.

We are not doing as much for each other this V-day because of the house.

But I got him a gift certificate for a massage, he needs it and deserves it - the poor thing working on the house each day.
I also got him a huge bag of gummy bears, since that's his favorite candy.

He's taking me out to dinner and a show on Thursday, but that gift is for both V-day and my birthday. And we are spending the day together on Friday (both off) just doing whatever we want!!!

To answer your second question ... I feel the same as Jenn, since Rob is so busy with the house and me with school, I look for those special days that we make that extra extra bit of time for each other!!!

We were supposed to stay in my Dad's apartment in Manhattan & go to dinner there on Friday night-but i just found out I have to work in massapequa Saturday morning
So it looks like we'll be doing something close to home.
My gift to Rich will be a box of dark chocolate & me getting dressed up to go to dinner
What can I say-he's easy to please.

We are have reservations for dinner at this really romantic inn upstate. Then 3 days of skiing! We really need a break for the house and all the moving stuff.

I am going to try and get John a valet box for his dresser. I think Bombay has a nice selection. I will have to try and slip out to the mall tonight.

Is it the man's responsibility or should either party take the lead on this. I always saw it as a woman's holiday/day. So I am sitting here wondering what my procrastinating hubby has planned for us. Probably nothing I guess I need to get the ball rolling if I really want to go somewhere. His excuse is I am so hard to please, so I should make the decision at least he will know that I am happy.

Shamma, every year on Valentines Day, I am the one that plans the evening. He will buy flowers and give me a nice gift, and I do the rest.

It seems like you are going to have to take the lead.

This year since we are planning a wedding we are not going too crazy.

I made reservations for dinner and then we are going home afterwards to watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding. It comes out on DVD tomorrow and I am going to purchase it. He never got to see it because he thought it would not be funny, so I went without him. Now that it is a certified hit he wants to see it.

So that is our night- simple and low-key.

My DH almost always makes the plans for Valentines Day. We rarely get gifts for each other...nice card and maybe something small and silly. We usually go out to a nice dinner or on long weekends we like to use it as our excuse to go away somewhere (nothing crazy - B&B upstate)

....but this year we both thought we had to work late on Friday night. We both just found out we definitely do not and so many places are booked. DH just called me upset that we waited so long....oh well...our search continues. I want a nice dinner and some wine.....
