Our olfactory glands have the strongest power to evoke nostalgia. What is your favorite smell that brings back memories?
Mine is the smell of baking yams. It reminds me of my grandmother's house. I also have a distinct memory of the smell of first grade. It was the smell of my school.....a totaly indescribable aroma...a mix of crayons, wood, pencils, books, all mixed together.

GAS! and no not as in flatulence.....but gasoline I just LOVE the smell......but it also has a nostalgic reminder too......every Sunday me, my sis, mom & dad would go to Charles Park.....but my dad's car was an old Dodge Dart, and it seemed like whenever we were going somewhere it had a problem.....so my dad would run it in the driveway and tinker around with it.....gasoline and the exhaust from certain cars always reminds me of that.

haven't smelled it in 20 years or so... but the smell of my grandma's apartment building. It had a very distinct smell..... sort of a combo of antique wood and the concrete underneath the terrazzo flooring in the hallway.
That aroma makes me think of family and germany overall......
OMG!! I swear I think I know the exact kind of smell you're talking about!! my mom is from Finland and whenever we went to see the fam, we stayed w/ my grandma, there was just something about her apartment building- for YEARS me & my sis would instantly say 'that smells like Finland' if we smelled something similar- I think it was the same kind of flooring- I just remember her staircase was grey I have such random things I remember from being a kid!

I know this smell too! Its the smell of her building!!!!!!! I can't really describe it, but if I had to, its a mix of elevator, that stone material that the halls are made of, lead paint, cigars, and cabbage!
