What kind of husband do you have?- what kind of wife are you?
As I said in my previous post I was surprised to see so many marriage is a breeze responses. These leads me to my next question.
What kind of personality does your husband have? Is he the non confrontational, non argumentative type? Are you this type as well?I am not trying to insult anyone, but just wondering. I know a few couples who hardly ever clash and I noticed the reason being is that either one of both of them never like to speak their mind, hold back or are very passive.
Again everyone who answered yes may be completely compatible with their mates, but we know that might not always be the case.
To answer my own question my husband and I are both strong people who speak their mind no matter what some times causing us to clash.

My husband can be very confrontational and inflexible. I used to be more passive but I am starting to speak up more, I am starting to feel run over. He's working on compromise.

While we are very happy and thrilled about spending the rest of our lives together, we are both opinionated and do, occasionally, clash. Fortunately our tastes are similar and we rarely disagree, especially about major things. The last time we disagreed on something was when DH wanted a full mass for our wedding while I didn't. He gave in because he could see how much I wanted the shorter ceremony.
Whoever the issue means more to normally winds up getting their way.
I don't normally believe in these types of theories, but I believe birth order often has a lot to do with these attitudes. DH is the oldest of four and I'm an only child so we were both used to having our opinions highly regarded within the family. I look at a lot of the people I know and what they say about birth order fits with a lot of them: the middle child is the peacemaker, the youngest the most fun loving, etc.
Sorry, slight tangent.

DH is VERY laid back and non confrontational. I am the more opinionated one who speaks up and makes my ideas known. For example, if we were in a store and we got overcharged for something DH would just say 'oh well' and I would be like' We're not ignoring this..we will get it corrected!' He is a little to passive sometimes. But on the flip side we are both very laid back and non confrontation when it comes to bickering over stupid things that many other couples may fight over. We both take the approach of will this matter tomorrow and if not there is no need to argue over it. We have never had a serious fight about anything. And i know some people either don't believe that or say that is unhealthy, but I would disagree. We agree on major issues (money, family, children, religion), we both are from similar families with similar values. So we are in agreement on the important things. The little daily things that might make me mad/upset I just blow off since it really won't matter in the end.
On the thought of birth order that someone brought up, I would definately think that DH is the way he is because of that in some way. He has three older sisters and he is the youngest, so with those sisters and his mom in the house he could never get a word in!! He learned to just not say anything to avoid the wrath of three older sisters badgering him all the time about what to do, etc. So now he is the quiet one and also well trained about putting the toilet seat down!

my husband is pretty easy going and laid back. What seems to work is that he notices and appreciates the efforts that I do. He isn't a pushover though and we have clashed, but just not since we got married. He seems 100% more appreciative than ever.
As an example:
Yesterday, I spent an hour looking around for him for the best pulmonologist in NYC. He suffers terrible asthma and had no physician should an emergency happen (like yesterday). After about one hour of researching, I was able to get him an appointment with this head guy at NYC hospital. I booked it for him and when I told him, he started tearing up saying he had never met anyone like me before and how lucky he was that he had me. That makes me want to do more for him!!!!

we both like to air things out right then and there...we have a rule that once we fight, we have to makeup 5 minutes later and drop it.

I AGREE. I try to do that, but sometimes I don't want to drop it. I'm famous for beating dead horses!!!

My husband is pretty laid back I think. He doesn't argue much, but he is also very set in his ways. I think in the relationship, I am certainly the more compromising one and I think that comes from years of being a middle child! It's just my nature - and he just got lucky!
However, I must hand it to him that he has become a lot more easy going with my moods lately. I have been so unpredictable and he's been dealing with that very well.

We're both nonconfrontational. We both have strong opinions and feelings on things, but we respect each other's opinions and don't try to change each other.
The one problem is that I tend to keep my feelings inside, mostly the negative ones like anger and frustration. I tend to want everything to be 'nice,' so sometimes I agree to things that later I regret and then I get resentful. So I'm working on being more open and upfront about my negative feelings.
The good things is even when we DO have a discussion about something we're disagreeing on, it's just a discussion. We TALK it out. We don't yell or scream or fight. We don't see the point in yelling at each other when you can just take your time and SAY (not scream) what you need to say.
Although if he ever REALLY messed up, I'd let him have it!!! LOL!!!

Re: What kind of husband do you have?- what kind of wife are you?
My husband is very mellow and absolutely non-confrontational (one of the reasons I love him so). I am a little more emotional and tend to let that rule at times. He is used to it and just lets me blow off steam because he knows I get over it pretty quickly. I'm not a yeller or screamer though and in the 7 years we have been together we have never had a yelling argument. Our biggest disagreements are usually about politics anyway!!!
For a long time I held my emotions inside and never let him know when something hurt me or bothered me (this was a leftover from my first marriage). I am now finally able to sit down with him and honestly express how I am feeling or if something is bothering me. We talk it out and resolve it and then let it go. We made it a rule a long time ago that we would not bring up past issues or hurts in any disagreements that we have in the future. It has made our relationship better because we don't have any old baggage to carry into new arguments. We all make mistakes and bringing them up only causes hurt all over again.

Great topic...
I agree with Jenn P regarding birth order. Let's just say my DH is an only child AND a Leo.... enough said. I'm a middle child.
DH is very opinionated and aggressive. I on the other hand am very passive and a push over. I'm getting better at sticking up for myself, but I am very soft and cry at the drop of a dime. I tend to keep things in and not express myself until they've been bottled up too long that I explode. Not a good thing.
Most of the time I usually let him have his way - just cause I don't want to argue or stress over something that I don't feel that passionate about. If I feel strongly I'll put up a harder fight.

Roger lets nothing bother him, he tries to lead a stress free life, I told him he has lost his equilibrium b/c at times he can come off as if he does not care. I am very talkative and he is always open to discussion, we are not hot heads arguers, we talk and talk a lot. Sometimes when we are talking we will both have paper and pen out so we can both remember our points and try not to interrupt. Roger is a bad listener and he is learning how to not do that, so the pen and paper is his way.

I am a very confrontational person. Sometimes too much. And I am married to a lawyer (he is confrontational for a living) LOL! So we can go at it. It is hard winning an argument against a lawyer, but I hold my own! Anyway we are working on it. We get along great, but man the slightest disagreement can go on forever because we both need to be heard and make our points. I am learning to let more things slide and carefully choose my battles. I think we enjoy the debates, but sometimes I just laugh and think we are rediculous. Marriage is hard work, I love it, but it is work sometimes.

Re: What kind of husband do you have?- what kind of wife are you?
I know sometimes me and DH can be the 'bickersons' but honestly I never, ever remember any 'fights' we have.
It's not that marriage is a breeze, but most of the time, I am able to think before I run my mouth. And believe me- this is something that has come with age and being in an 'adult' relationship- unlike all the others that have come before DH.
For example- yes, his family is annoying. But it is not acceptable for me to be annoyed by them just because I don't think they are 'up to snuff'... I even let it go when they forgot my birthday!!!
What can you do? You can't change people, you have to accept them.

Re: What kind of husband do you have?- what kind of wife are you?
My DH is about the most laid back person I know (aside from maybe my dad - is that weird that he is so much like him in that respect? ) We've been together over 9 years and can say we've never really had a real fight - yelling or saying mean things in anger. we don't ALWAYS agree, but on most things that really matter, we do. And if we don't we'll just talk it over. I know some couples who are the yelling fight type of people and it seems to work for them, but I don't think I could handle that myself. I guess I'm the more aggressive one of the two and I have very quick temper and little patience. I also tend to be a bit pessimistic and a total worry wort whereas Scott is a glass half full kind of guy and doesn't let most things worry him. He really thinks I'm crazy sometimes. I think I got very lucky to find a guy who is so perfect for me - who can put up with me!
As far as birth order, I don't know - I'm the baby in my family (1 brother) and DH is the oldest of 3 (two sisters).

I am the definition of a type A personalitly. I hit stress at the drop of a hat- sadly.
Frankie is EXTREMELLY laid back and takes the slow long road on EVERYTHING. I am getting better at letting him go on cruise control on non-important or urgent things.
I am lucky because Frankie is a wonderful man that knows that I go from 0 to maximum stress in 10 seconds flat. He knows when to let me be a tornado and get through it and when to kick my butt and tell me to get over it!
