What To Wear To Winter Wedding

What To Wear To Winter Wedding

DH's cousin is getting married New Year's Day - I rarely go to winter weddings, the one I went to I wore a long dress, but what's the etiquette for winter wedding apparel? I keep finding cute dresses that are above the knee but don't want to look out of place. Any color/style suggestions would be appreciated too.

I would definitly go with a long dress for a winter wedding with closed shoes b/c its so cold. When looking for a dress during that season youll be coming across nice winter/fall dresses in colors like burgundy, black, navy blue, dark green, etc. These are all really pretty to wear in the winter, i tend to wear bright colored/light dresses in the spring and winter time.

I am thinking you do what you feel comfortable in.
If shorter is not it, that don't do it. Cocktail dresses and just below the knee are quite the rage right now that is why you are seeing them more at this time.

What time of year is this?
I would do closed toe if your planning on stockings for sure. I am a BIG peeptoe fan - so I usually end up with no stockings or a seemless toe stocking if need be.

Hmmm that is hard. I went to a wedding in November...guess thats not really winter yet but it was colllld. But anyway I wore a strapless dress that had velvety swirls on it - it was knee length. (Sounds ugly - the velvet part but it wasnt...lol.) I wore little sweater and a jacket over that but checked the jacket ofcourse. And I think I wore open toe shoes but only because I didnt have any good closed toe shoes. My feet were def cold and I regret not remembering to buy closed toe :(

Most people were in knee length or below the knee dresses so I think you will be fine.

I agree with the ladies who said any length is fine, any little black cocktail dress should be fine. If not black, I would wear a darker color, and winter is fun because you can wear a velvet dress. I would definitely invest in a pair of dressy closed toe shoes if you don't have a pair.

I went to a NYE wedding a few years ago and wore a burgundy cocktail dress and it was perfectly appropriate. I mean really you're not outside that much, I don't think you need to dress for being outside. Grab your coat and where whatever you want. Colors though I wouldn't do things so light or bright, more jeweltones or deeper...lots of people wore black. HTH!

Fashion has changed so much. I went to a rather up-scale wedding this past January and all our sexy fashionistas had the cutest little above the knee cocktail dresses. It is perfectly acceptable!!

I would let the formality of the invitation and the reception venue dictate my outfit, not the season. Everyone is comfortable in different lengths, in summer or winter, and they'll usually stick to what they like.

I don't know, I wear short dresses and/or cocktail dresses and strappy shoes or peep toes (no stockings of course) to winter weddings all the time. I'm not a floor length dress fan, but that's just me. So I say wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

ETA: It's not like you're going to be outside, the only time will be from the car to the door.

I would wait for the invitation and go with what they want. If it's formal a long dress if not then wear what you feel comfortable in. When i'm dress shopping for a wedding I consider the invitation and season. You could do a very cute short dress that is velvet or a richer fabric. I pick based on fabric not length for the time of year i'll be wearing it

I wear strappy sandals and short dresses too - never had a problem. Like you said I am barely outside for five minutes so it is okay. I always bring a wrap though because i am ALWAYS cold inside, no matter the season.

well our wedding was beginning of january, and ALOT of people wore knee length dresses, it was basically 50/50 with long and short. I would wear what your comfortable in.
