What was the first thing you did when you walked into your new home?

We just walked around the entire place for probably an hour. I think we were in shock that we actually did it.

Fran - LOL, we did the same thing. We actually first walked around, noticing everything we hadn't noticed before. Then we started to draw a layout of the unfinished basement, and we are now, 2 weeks later, well underway in terms of finishing it. It's coming out great!

CLEANED!! I don't think the people we bought the house from did any cleaning after it was sold.

we walked around....I looked in every closet, drawer and storage area!! Then we had some lunch...and just sat on the floor and congratulated each other!! It was such a feeling!!!

I think we just walked around the house in AWE and then went in the backyard and sat by the pool not knowing if it was all a dream !

We walked around our entire cooperative apartment surveying and studying every inch of it. I couldn't believe that this is where I was going to live after we'd wed as we'd both lived with our parents before getting married. Then we cleaned and cleaned. It was so filfthy.

We walked around...opening everything - felt kinda weird though at first cause we still felt like we were intruding even though it was empty!
Then we stood around thinking...ok What now?
It's a great feeling!

Cleaned like a mad woman. I get skeeved very easily, even though the prior owners looked cleaned and the house was well kept.

We ran around flipping every light on, opening every closet and then we attempted to find his cellphone because a fire started behind the wall - I'm not even kidding!!! After they ripped open the walls in the bathroom, I said 'Oh well!' and started gutting the place, since the previous owners had graciously left us a 30 yard dumpster on the front lawn.

We walked around the house and I took measurements for window treatments. And we looked around trying to figure out where to put everything.

Yes, but it took somewhere in the neighborhood of $160,000 to make the house what I want it to be.

Yeah, the fire was great fun!

I remember my husband turned on the light in the bathroom and he tapped the tile on the wall with a hammer and said 'Oh yes, this bathroom is going to be gutted!'. As he turned off the light, I saw sparks flying from those oversized bulb light assem blys over the medicine cabinet. Before I knew it, there was flames. I freaked out as I held his cellphone and screamed 'How do you dial 911??!?' It was great meeting all my new neighbors at 1:30 a.m. when the sirens woke them up. It was great!

It was a Friday and we went from the closing to the house, and waited for the locksmith to change the locks. We took some measurements while we waited. Once that was done, we took off for Massachusetts to finish the final packing and meet the movers on Monday morning. Monday night we drove back to NY and when we got to the house it was late, so we just unloaded the stuff in the cars and made a bed on the floor with the blankets and quilts we'd brought and crashed so we could meet the movers early Tuesday morning to unload.

Im not a newlywed (yet - only 7 weeks to go!!), but I just had to respond to this one!
