shamma that is awesome, I am hoping for the same!
Same here Shamma! Everything we played had people up and dancing and we mixed it up quite a bit! We had the Beer Barrel Polka (DH's family is Polish) which was a huge hit (for the right crowd), some typical party songs (Venga Boys 'We like to party' was a hit), the Irish Wedding song (slow), Cotton-eyed Joe among others! We even played a beautiful Irish song recorded by my grandfather who passed away when I was three years old. Such a great moment! So, my advice is mix it up and play some things that are special to you and your family and don't feel the need to stick with what the typical play lists can be!
Christy what are you looking for?? You know the people you are inviting best. What will make them get up and dance??? Your DJ/band should also be able to read the crowd to know what works and what doesn't
I have to say that our reception was full of a lot of dancers. My DJ was AWESOME, he really knew how to get people dancing. Even my grandmother (who is no longer with us) and had Alzheimer's was dancing. We had a mix of 70's, 80's aand 90's music. In terms of slow songs, we had sone Billy Joel songs, and some old time slow love songs, such as Unchained Melody.
The Time Warp! Ended up being our last song by accident, but that was a lot of fun!! And my little sis' & I had a ball dancing to 'Build Me Up Buttercup'!!
