What would you do differently?

Original post by Mrs A in May

Are there any things that you would do differently on your wedding day if you could? I have a few...like I would taken pics outside even though it was pouring, maybe bought cute umbrellas for my bms.

I would have made menus for all my guests...I would have hugged my sisters after their toast to us. I felt so bad afterwards, they made a beautiful toast and I don't know why I didn't hug them

i don't think I hugged my sister after her toast either now that I think back Everything was just crazy that day, and I remember sitting during her toast and then we all clanked glasses, but i really don't think that i gave her a hug. I'll have to watch the dvd when i get it. That sux. Now i feel kinda bad because it was a VERY touching toast too. Very beautifully worded. I love her.

Wow...lol, everything was great & beautiful but yea, there were a bunch of stuff I wish, I could do over:

1. Shop for a gorgeous wedding dress that's more flattering for my body. I loved my dress but the bead work as well as the puffy skirt reflected poorly on the day of the wedding pics.

2. Get a different caterer & limo. The caterer I worked with was horrifying, the waitstaff kept rushing to collect plates instead of attending to our guests the whole night. As for the limo, it was a nightmare. We were left outside with no car to transport us home.

3. A superb make-up artist/hairstylist that would make me FAB. My make-up/hair stylist did a bad job.

4. Get flip flops for our guests for our outdoor wedding. They had to take off their shoes to dance on the wedding floor and got grass stains all over.

5. My photographer left out photos of my husband's grandmother as well as photos with both of our grandmothers. :(

6. My band forgot to do the bridal party entrance/line-up so no one was formally introduced. Everything was sort of rushed.

7. I wish, we got to sit down and enjoy our cocktail hour but we were doing formal portraits with our photographers. We missed out on the food & drinks!

8. Agreed with most brides here. I would def had loved to do a beach wedding- maybe when we re-new our vows! :)

just my dress - i either would have gotten something else somewhere else OR brought it somewhere else for alterations - not b/c i didnt love my dress but b/c alterations were crap and the bridal salon s-u-c-k-e-d a$$

other than that i dont think i would have changed a thing

I wish I could have gotten some pics taken outside at night. But, I didn't have it written down on my request sheet and I didn't think about it until after the fact. Oh well.

I wish I would have specified what particular pictures I especially wanted. Dont get me wrong, my photographer was great but I wish I had a few more pics of certain family members.

same here!

have my BP get their hair and make up done first. Have more portrait shots and Have DH clean out our car LOL. DH drove me to the hotel in a messy car

I also would like to add that if I could have had any say, I would've had 2 of my BM do things differently.

According to DH's other cousin, they both showed up at her house not dressed, no hair, no nothing about 2 hours before we had to pick them up.

I am not saying that you have to do prom hair, but all they did was straighten their hair and add a 'bump' in the front. I mean...wow...thanks for showing some effort for our wedding. One of my BM also apparently thought she was a size 0. So the back of her dress didn't zip up at all in the back. The whole thing was open and it looked HORRIBLE. She didn't think anything was wrong with it.

If I could change that...I would.

I would have done a lot of things differently. I would have had my hair done by someone else for sure. I would also have gotten a different dress. I sort of hated mine and it was uncomfortable. I would have had my photographer take more pictures DH and I outside even though it was freezing.

I would have used all low CPs and have them in holders that people could take homes. They could take the insert but most people didn't.

I would get a different photog. b/c while mine was good, he didnt do any artistic shots.

and, I would lose more weight!!

I would have NEVER EVER done My Fair Wedding. I know tons of girls would say that I was crazy but still...I would never have done the show. If you want to know the truth and all the details FM me.

aw. But it does seem pretty cool that you'll have something like that to show your future kids someday. I'd love it if my mom & dad did a wedding show back in the day and i was able to watch it now. lol. Pretty cool

Re: What would you do differently?

(1) I would have had a reception dress that was short and easier to dance/move in.

(2) I would have cut the guest list soooooo much more.

(3) As much as I loved our HUGE bridal party, I would have cut it down to BM, MOH and our siblings. So we'd have 3 people each!

Umm... as much as i love my pictures, i wish i would have told the photog to take certain pictures.... i wish i would have paid more attention to my mom and dad on the card ride to the church....little things that i think about that dont really upset me, but i just wish i would have done

All and all it was a great day and i have no real regrets!

Re: What would you do differently?

I have several things, I am over most of it by now.

Biggest things..

Wasted too much time DIYing...should have outsourced!

Not being stricter about dress alterations

Got cranky because we were running late and I got really bossy and a tad mean

Should have listened to the bands advice and started dancing asap instead of what the hall wanted to do...and take dinner orders first!

Things I should have taken care of more seriously, nothing on the vendor end at all:
1. Create a real must take list that I've thought about in great detail.
2. Create a better must play list. Our DJ played all the songs we requested, but I should have put down more songs that I love to dance to because I would have been on the dancefloor more than I was.
3. Had more time so we could have gone to the CH

Different dress, better pics, and not stress.

Re: What would you do differently?

paying better attention to the time!! After our ceremony we hung out for a WHILE at the church taking photos & just goofing around...suddenly our photographer was like 'Guys we really gotta get moving' - i was like 'No...it's only ____o'clock'..and he goes 'NOOO..that clock is 45minutes behind!'
i was like 'WWWHHHAAAT?!?' ..not that we were late, but if we were paying attention like we were supposed too, we would've gotten to actually see our cocktail hour, taken our time eating, and THEN took photos.. instead dh & i raced to the suite where our MD had already picked a few things for us to eat since we never got to scan the room for what we wanted before hand, relaxed for about 10minutes & then had to hunt down the bridal party & take photos through our cocktail hour. it was a shame because we had worked out the timing so perfectly so that way we'd have time to relax, and our BP could still really attend & enjoy the CH, etc. but instead WE NEVER EVEN SAW THE ROOM! We got to eat some fruit & a few little appetizers - and afterwards all we heard about was how UNBELIEVABLE our CH was! JT is famous for it for goodness sake

I also would've planned ahead of time when we were going to say hello to everyone or thought of a clever way to do it...we had so many guests & while making our rounds it just took up SO much time.. i remember saying to the dh 'oooh i wanna DANCE to this song!' - don't get me wrong, it was really nice to see everyone individually - but i wish we could've made a cute game out of it, or just picked a designated time & let the dj know or something.

Other than that - honestly everything was perfect i was happy with my vendors, how the day went, etc... i also probably would've really made it a point to suprise the dh with a cigar roller. I had thought of it but in the end we were just so strapped for money..now that i think back i just wish i wouldve thought of it sooner & put money aside for it..he would've really liked it
