What would you do in this situation?

What would you do in this situation?

A friend of mine who I've known for about 5 or 6 years (but only hung out with sporadically) kept telling me about when I get married, she wanted to be invited to the wedding.

Well that time happened, and she was excited to be invited and told me every chance she got how she couldn't wait for the big day.

The wedding day came and went. She (and her guest that she RSVP'd with) were a complete no show and with no explanation, no phone call, no email, no congrats, NOTHING.

All of a sudden I get an email from her stating that she has moved to a new address. I am debating if I should even bother opening the email at all. Since it's via AOL, she will know if I delete it. I had all intentions of just writing her off.

What would you do?

OMG!! I had almost the same EXACT thing happen to me too... a girl i was good friends with in HS and then saw sporatically invited and responded with her and a guest then never showed up and never gave any sort of an explanation! She even rsvped yes to my shower and never showed up... i dont know what i would do... i told people if i ever saw her on the street i would pretend not to know her.... but if i was actually in the situation, maybe i would... who knows... maybe i would respond to the email and just say, 'So, what happened to you at the wedding? Why didnt you show up.... you did respond that you were coming right?'

I would probably open it to see if she gave an explanation/apology for not beng at your wedding. Just out of curiosity. Then if she didn't say anything in the email you could always not respond.

Thats a difficult situation. i'm sorry it happened to you! I am a nosy/curious person so I would have to read the email and see if there was an explanation and if there wasn't i'd have to contact her to find out what happened? I would probably frame the question as more concerned, if she was so eager to be invited maybe she had a car accident or something came up at the last minute? I would'ne be able to just write her off until I had an answer about what happened.

wow! that's nerve!!!!

I would probably debate this for a while myself but evenetually I know that I would want to confront her and find out why she did that.

SOME PEOPLE ARE

The same thing happened to me and he's a neighbor. Haven't seen him yet, but when I do I will politely ask him what happened....I feel I deserve an explanation. I know this sounds rude, but I paid for two plate under his name and he didn't even have the decency to call. Come on!!

If I were you, I would open the e-mail and write her back. Sometimes it's easier to write your feelings rather than speak them.

We actually had two guys RSVP, tell my husband the day before that they were psyched about the wedding and would see him there! No show. We just asked them what the deal was the next time we saw them. I don't think it's rude at all to ask. One said he had no money and felt because he had no money to give us, he shouldn't go. (I was a little insulted at this as we didn't invite him for his gift). The other didn't want to miss work - he's a bartender (he knew he was going to work when he told my husband the night before that he was psyched about the wedding).

Getting back to the original question - open the e-mail. What have you got to lose?

Janna, curiosity would get the better of me and I would open the e-mail. If she mentions NOTHING about being a no-show (with a gazillion apologies), I would send her an e-mail sarcastically thanking her for coming to your wedding (ok, I'm immature!), then write her off.
