when the time comes...

how many of you are planning on being a stay at home mom?

I think I want to be for a few years, but it will depend on how good my job at the time is. Good question, though.

well, i graduate grad school in 2 1/2 years...hopefuly after that i will get a job in a school district. i have conflicting feelings about it. i definitely want to work bc i hope that i wouldnt go through 6 1/2 years of college to stay at home. but i don't know how we will handle it when the time comes. i work in childcare now and i know i do not want my kids in daycare fulltime. i am hoping dh's parents move to charlotte and can help out. whatever we do, it wont be for a few years, unfortunately.

I don't think I'll be able to unfortunately. We're not at that point yet but financially I don't think we'll be in a position for me to stay at home. Guess we can hope for the best though.

Think about it this way.. after your kids are in kindergarden, you'll have the rest of your life to work and use that masters degree.

I would love to be at stay at home mom but I don't see it in my immediate future. Too many bills to pay!

I dont think I am or can.. unless I was in the job I am in now when I get preggo.. its too much travelling involved so if they couldnt move me than I'd quit.

I really hope to be. I really want to be home and raise my children.
I guess, we'll have to see.

Re: when the time comes...

I don't think that it is in the cards for us. DH works for the FDNY so we oftentimes don't have the same days off (he does work days tho). My SMIL plans on watching the baby for us when we both have to work, this is the best situation for us.

I'd rather that don't struggle financially.

We've talked about it, and I know that I can if I want to. Right now, the plan is to take an extended maternity leave (6 months) then go back to work PT. I'm fortunate that my company has Flex Time, and I can work from home and the office.

Of course, it all remains to be seen.....you just never know how things are going to turn out.

Re: when the time comes...

It looks like my MIL will be available to watch any kiddos (hopefully), so I'd feel comfortable going back to work. However, after the 2nd one, I'd probably stay home for a few years.

Re: when the time comes...

I hopefully will be able to. We have talked about it and we both want that for our kids if we can afford it. I will probably work per diem (1-2 days a week) on the days that my mom or his mom would be able to take the kids. We are lucky since we have so much support close to home and working in health care gives me the flexibility of working when I want (due to the huge shortages).

Re: when the time comes...

DH & I have discussed this & we have made an agreement. After having 1, I will go back to work but might not work as many hours. My dad has offered to watch our child. Once we have 2, I will be home until all children are in school & then I will go back to work! There is no way that I could stay home at that point!

Nah, I am going to try and get back to work as soon as possible

I would like to stay home for like 2- 3 years until the child can talk , then I would probably have to go back to work.
