When you saw your proofs...

When you saw your proofs...

Were you completely blown away by them?
I wasn't. I'm very, very critical of myself but I kind of hoped that I'd look at my wedding pictures differently. I didn't. I ripped myself apart and on top of that, I'm disappointed that there are so few pictures of DH and I together during the reception itself (we did spend quite a bit of it together).
I have some great shots; I made a beautiful album and I'm looking forward to scanning and sharing them in a couple of weeks when I get them back - but I'm just not as thrilled as I thought I'd be.
Anyone else feel this way?

When I first got my proofs I kind of felt the same way. Alot of the pictures of my alone I thought came out really bad even though everyone else kept saying I was crazy. I also felt like there was pictures missing of the night. Overall I am happy with them but I'm sure alot of other people feel the same way.

I felt the same way-- but when I did my album and I laid all the pics out-- I think my album will be pretty great-- I haven't gotten it yet-- as I just went in to do it like a month ago-- but, I am really excited to get it..

I mean-- with so many pics, how can they all be gems?

That's a good way to put it. I didn't expect them all to be great (because I know the faces that I can make!) but I felt like things were missed that should have been captured - from the pictures, it looks like DH and I didn't spend most of the reception together when we did.
I just hope that they'll edit the video the right way.

I also had this experience. When I went to put my album together and we picked out the best photos I was much happier with the final result, more than I had been. I realized the pics that made the album were good, and the photos that weren't taken or looked funny to me seemed less important.

I have to say, I do love most of my proofs. the only one's I am not loving are the one's from the end of the night at the reception. I was sweaty sans lipstick and many pics showed how tired I was, even though I didn't feel it until we got to the hotel.

I felt the same way as you and Randella and Bluesashbride felt. I think that we all have certain expectations and are sad when they are not met. For me, I was sad about my photos, and what was worse, was that everyone agreed that they were not the best. I was able to select enough good ones for an album, but I will say there were things I wish were captured better, especially since there were candid photos that friends and family took that were much better than my professional photos.

Mel,

I felt the same way you do! I was so upset because I had this image in my head that every pic was going to be this masterpiece. However after putting all of the pictures together and remembering they were proofs, I started to love them. As Randella said, with so many pics they're not all going to be gems.

Thanks everyone. You've all helped me feel much better.

I also wanted to say that I wasn't overly excited with them, but I am also critical of myself and what's worse - so is DH! So we had a tough time choosing photos - so many either I didn't like how I looked or he didn't like how he looked.

In the end, though, we did choose the ones we thought were the best and our album came out nicely. I think of it more as a memory of our day, not the masterpiece I thought it would be. Honestly, I like many of the candid photos we have from the honeymoon better, since they are more natural and more 'us.'

And I would echo Bluesashbride - you pick the best ones for the album, so you do forget about the weird, unflattering ones.

Re: When you saw your proofs...

I just wish that my mom weren't so disappointed - and I don't blame her for feeling that way. My parents are barely in any pictures during the reception either. The two sides of the family were certainly not covered evenly and I know that she won't let it go for a long, long time.

OMG you make faces too? I hate that I have to make stupid faces...most of my pictures have me smirking!

As for what was missed...well I got zero table shots...so I can't really tell who was at my reception. And I forgot to get a family shot with my siblings and parents and half siblings...since my parents are divorced and we're all grown up and living in different places, that was probably my last chance. But that was my fault...I was too busy partying to care and never made a list. I do love soome pictures and they overshadow the rest...and the missed ones.

i was a little dissapointed and very upset i didn't request more specific shots.

however, as other girls have said, once you lay them ut and pick out the album - it changes. seeing just the best pictures together is tunning and i am very pleased.

Re: When you saw your proofs...

I just have to add that I got my album in the mail yesterday and I love it. I feel much better, plus I think I too, like others have said, built up an expectation in my mind that might have been impossible to reach. So I think after some time, and when you focus on the best photos you really will feel much better.

I'm the opposite -- I fully expected to hate the pictures because I rarely come out well. But Dan Krieger took amazing shots and I love my proofs!!

I was disappointed, to put it briefly

Me too. I haven't even opened my proof books since we got them back, and have no desire right now to even make an album.
