My poor friend has to put her new Kitty to sleep because she got her from a shelter and she is so sick. No cure. She just lost her other Kitty a month ago. Anyways I know nothing at all about cats, Im a dog person. I would like to get her a Kitty for Christmas. Where should I go????? I need your help big time on this one. Thanks in advance

just like dogs, recently adopted cats can have all sorts of diseases... I don't think a shelter has any higher incicent of these diseases than some pet stores, simply becuase you can't know where these cats are coming from....
definitely go to a shelter, or look through newsday for 'adopt a kitten' ads. All those kitties need good homes.... then, if you want to calm your friends fears of whether or not the new kitty is sick, send it to the vet for a thorough check-up.
Also, make sure your friend discards any old kitty things, and cleans everything thoroughly... actually, it would be best to ask the vet how to make the home disease free for new kitty

I know that Petco and PetSmart in Huntington often have cats and kittens for adoption...that is how we got Skittles.
Also check out Feral Felines and Friends and SAVES-i don't remember their websites, but you can google them...I found Tigger through Feral Felines and Friends

I don't know if they have one in L.I. but we adopted ourkitty from a pet shelter called P.A.W.S. here in NJ. All you pay for is the shots essesntially and its same day take home. We love our Simon even though he's a dork and a half lol. I have to post pics...

I don't know the name of it, but we got our last cat at the shelter in Huntington by the bus depot/town dump, back by Townline Road. They were wonderful.

Little Shelter. We got our cat there in September. Or Animals can't talk, I think they are based out of Bayside, do a google search.
