Where to go for our 1 year anniversary???

Help! DH and I are trying to think of a place to go in May for our anniversary. DH wants to go to an island because he's never been to one. I've been to a number of islands and am just not that crazy about them (I'm not really a lay out on the beach/water sports type of person).

Does anyone have any ideas on where we could go that has beaches but also stuff to do otherwise? Doesn't have to be the Caribbean..... could be Europe or any other place....

Thanks!

Re: Where to go for our 1 year anniversary???

Maybe somewhere in Central America, like Belize or Costa Rica? Beautiful beaches, plus amazing rainforests, eco-tourism, lots of adventure sports (rafting, kayaking)...

I guess it depends on what you like to do when you're not on the beach - active stuff like hiking, or more relaxed activities like museum-hopping and shopping?

Shopping, of course! DH is the sports-crazed/sun loving person. I'm the indoors/ shopping/spa person
I'd love to go someplace where there's nice beaches, but lots of good shopping, nice restaurants and nightlife, and American tv I'd be so bored without good tv!

Gotcha!! Then you should go to Europe! Somewhere on the French or Italian Riviera might be nice.

I was thinking the Italian Riviera. I loooooove Italy but have never been to the Riviera.
Good suggestion!

I've heard great things about the Amalfi Coast, but I don't know any specifics. Is that where Capri is?...I don't know my geography...

Re: Where to go for our 1 year anniversary???

A cruise could also work! You can do a cruise to the caribbean. Some islands have the duty free shopping. There are always fun excursions to do on the islands also. I had a blast on both cruises. Some of the things we did:

1st cruise:
Cozumel - Snorkeling, shopping, bars at night
Ocho Rios - Dunns waterfall hike
Grand Cayman - Island Tour, Shopping, Swimming with Stingrays

Second Cruise:
San Juan - Went to the forts, shopping, bars
Dominican Rebublic - Catamaran ride and snorkel, then private beach
Bahamas - Private Island- beach and swimming
St Thomas - Snorkeling, SHOPPING!

The cruise ships are also very fun. After dinner we went to the nightly show, and then to one of the bars or the discoteque. There is also the casino!
During the days on the ships we hung out by the pool, ate a lot!, we got massages once, there is a gym but we didn't use it.

If you can go to Europe then I would go there! I have never been to Europe! That could be very romantic for your anniversary and maybe do a caribean cruise another time!

Re: Where to go for our 1 year anniversary???

Julz - which cruise line did you take? DH and I have always wanted to do a cruise but don't know anything about which lines are better than others. I'd want one that has an awesome fitness center and he'd want one that has tons of sports and activities to do.

I think the Riviera is more like Cinque Terre. Capri is an island which I believe is off of the Riviera. I've heard that it's gorgeous but very touristy and expensive.....
We don't want to go anywhere too pricey.

I did Carnival First. It was a lot of fun but there were a lot of families/kids.
Then we did Costa. It was more laid back with an older crowd. They both had nice fitness centers. We didn't do any sports on the cruise ships but I remeber there being a basketball court. Most of the activities we did were off of the ship.

Oooooo, Cinque Terre!!!! My friends went there on their honeymoon a few years ago and said they had the best time of their lives. Definitely worth checking out! I remember their pictures being so gorgeous....

We went to Aventura Spa Palace in Mexico. This place was incredible....

The great thing about the palace hotels, if you can use all of their hotels. Good luck

DH and I did a RCCL cruise on one of their voyager class ships and we LOVED it! There was so much to do on the ship! We also honeymooned on Costa Rica and there was nothing better, if you ask me!

Re: Where to go for our 1 year anniversary???

Cruises are great. My parents went on both Princess and Royal Caribbean for Caribbean Cruises and they loved it. We loved the Hawaiian cruise we went on but I don't know if it was the time of year or what but their were a lot of old people on the cruise. But the princess ship was great!
