Where to live?

Original post by MsPotterhead

I know this has been posted again and again, but I need some help and suggestions.
I live in Park Slope. I LOVE it here, but absolutely cannot afford to buy here. Its disgusting. A small 2 bedroom condo is at least 699K. Its crazy!

Soooo, We are thinking of Queens or Nassau.

We are looking for a neighborhood with a reasonable commute to the city or brooklyn, with a good school system, with stuff to do, and with a decent sized Jewish population (we are reform, but just don't want our kids to be the only Jewish kids in school).
we are thinking of

Forest Hills
Long Beach
Merrick

If anyone lives in anyone of these areas, or can recommend an area that sounds like what I described, I'd greatly appreciate it.

TIA!

Thank you so much ladies! This made everything so much cleared, and I now have a list of places to check out. You all rock -- thank you!

Good luck

if you have any other questions regarding forest hills or queens in general, feel free to fm me anytime. I am looking to move to LI right now and I know how hard it can be to look at places that you dont know much about. Everytime I find a listing of a place that i like i have to ask, ok so is this neighborhood good, how far, and find out info. So i completely understand what youre going through. I hate looking at places and being clueless about the area.

Huntington-i saw 4 places yesterday and the village is real nice, i liked the area ALOT

massapequa
levittown
oyster bay

then a few other neighborhoods that are either in nassau but close to suffolk, or beginning of suffolk.

Thanks! I probably will take you up on it!
Where in LI are you looking?

Re: Where to live?

I grew up in Oceanside, big and diverse Jewish population(orthodox, conservative and reform). I live in a co-op in Great Neck right now, which has a huge Jewish population but we'll prob have to move out of it when we need a house since the houses are ridiculous here.

Long Beach has a lot of Orhtodox families who send their kids to private school. (there is a big Yeshiva in LB). I have friends who live there but will move when it is time for their kids to go to school since the school district isnt so hot.

I would also look in Little Neck, Wantagh,(which has more presidential schools of excellence than any other district), and Plainview/Old Bethpage. All have sizable secular Jewish communities.
