WHO AM I?? SS CARD/ID, etc. help

HI Ladies, so I am recently married and this is my first post to this board!
My issue is.....it's only been two weeks of me being in between two names and it is driving me nuts! I havent offically changed any of my documents, etc... or things at work because I have to change the docs first but I do not know what to do first!!
I would guess Social security and motor vehicles?

There are no SS offices by me- did you mail yours in?

Any help would be GREAT!! I want to get some of this done today!!

Go to the DMV first with your marriage license you got in the mail. Then you can go to SS and show them your marriage license and new driver's license. After that go to the bank and then you can do credit cards over the phone! I went to the office in Freeport and i belive there is also one in Patchogue. I think you can do it by mail but have to send them the original marriage certificate. I was very hesitant to do that. Good luck and Congrats!!!!!!!

oh yeah I am hesitant to do that too because when I applied for a passport right before the wedding, they lost my birth certificate! Then I had to go get a new one!

So you can go to motor vehicles before SS....I might do that, then see if there is a SS in patchouge, I am going that way toget anyway.

i did all my dmv stuff right away.....and then all my credit cards and such.... believe it or not, my ss card was the last thing i did..

dont drive urself too crazy - just do a little at a time!

YOu cant do SS or DMV over the phone or by mail, they just changed the law. It doesnt take that long if you take a day off from work to do it, I got my new DL in 30 mintues (from the second I walked in til I walked out) and SS took about 1 hour...that was annoying. Neither one takes your marriage certificate or your Birth certificate-they will give them righth back to you

Don't worry about not changing your id yet, I have been married 8 months and still haven't changed mine yet.

I just got everything done today! And you are exactly right about the amount of time that it took. It was annoying but not all done.
I told DH that he owes me for takig his name.

Really?? I went on the DMV website last week and it said you HAD to go in person. Well anyway, I went last week during my lunch break to the one in Garden City and let me tell you, was THAT fun!! I had to wait 90 mins. I actually changed my name on my bank accounts first... then went to the SS office... then DMV. I don't think it really matters what order you do it. You just need the same docs for everything.

Nope all you need to show them is your marriage cert. I was shocked you didnt have to show more...I had EVERYTHING with me just in case but they said they didnt need anything else.
